Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Vicky H, Nottingham, visiting O2 Ritz Manchester Tue, 17 January 2023

Paid £35 online for a Sunday night. The reviews for this hotel were terrible but we seem to have gotten lucky. The fact it was a Sunday meant it was way cheaper and pretty empty. The rooms are shabby but I paid £35. I wasn't expecting much. I'd stay again for a cheap night when you're not going to be spending too much time in the hotel. 9 minutes from the Ritz and 10 minutes from city park, which you get discounted parking through the hotel reception. You get what you pay for.

Liked: Friendly staff. Cheap. Great location.
Disliked: Tropical heat in the bedroom and the phone going off all night.

Friendly staff and great location but I think perhaps we got what we paid for. Keeping in mind I have an 8 month old child at home, this was by far the worst night's sleep I have experienced in over a year! Not quite the comfortable, peaceful night I was hoping for! As long as you don't want to sleep, the hotel is great as a base, but avoid breakfast at all costs!

Liked: Good location.
Disliked: Bed was rock hard; breakfast was very unpleasant.

Good Central location but expensive...

Liked: I liked the central location and that it was a walkable distance to Piccadilly station and also to the venue I was attending. The hotel looked very grand externally and was well decorated inside.
Disliked: The single bed creaked whenever I turned over and it was right up to the radiator which was hot, which made me hot and uncomfortable. The pillow was very hard and solid which was not comfortable. The sink plug didn't fit the plug hole in the bathroom sink.

Safety compromised by thoughtless, random...

Liked: I like the hotel, enjoy the location and find it good value, I have stayed here four or five times in the last six months.
Disliked: I was in Manchester to meet a girl and booked a double room with a view to meeting my girlfriend later. We met early, had a nice meal and went to the room to relax, have a bath etc popping in and out a few times over the course of the night. We went out at midnight for a drink returning well too before 2am, at this point security demanded id from my companion refusing us entry. It was too late to access her i.d, what she had quick access to was already in the room along with her clothes from earlier....the upshot was highly distressing. It was too late to move hotels and we were left in a horrible predicament. I don't mind her having to provide id but we were not aware our safety hinged on having it at all times. I obviously booked with id and presented it at check in. I wrongly presumed I would be treated like a paying adult guest. They could of asked her for id half a dozen times over the course of the evening and night, they could of made us aware of this seemingly arbitrary rule long before it was such a serious problem. I booked, I payed, I presented id at check in and as far as I was aware had broken no rules.... to leave us walking the streets on a freezing wet winter night while our possessions enjoyed your hotel is unforgivable. I feel the enforcement of the rules at that point (2am)while technically correct put us in a miserable and dangerous predicament completely unnecessarily. To realise my girlfriend or daughter could very easily have been put in this scenario while travelling alone in deeply unsettling and I fully intend to follow up because of this. At least if I make some noise It will highlight the significant risks imposed on your guests before they run foul of your poorly trained, rude security staff, who obviously enjoyed ruining our weekend in broken English. It seems to me that you are so used to dealing with homeless people and/or prostitutes in Manchester that your staff have confused the above with paying, regular guests.
