I visited Bowood House today with my parents & 2 children,my mother is disabled and found the facilities and accessability terrible. When we arrived there is a sign to say to ask to be taken to the disabled parking area beside the house so thats what we did & was escorted to the parking area but on arrival I was horrified, the gradient was so steep you need climbing equipment to get out of your car with severe cobbles, when you get out of the parking area its pebbles which you cant push a wheelchair round, you are asked to leave your keys with the gift shop and then need to be escorted back to your car by a member of staff so the flexibility you need as a disabled person of going back to your car several times for a rest is taken from you..I asked why is it so awfully equipped for a disabled person I was told because the land is listed they cant remove the cobbles etc - what is wrong with building a removable structure which is flat & non slip. I would not recommend going to Bowood house if you are not able bodied, we paid £33 to get in and only saw the "car park" and house entrance, despite asking about the disabled car park we were not offered the half price entrance and was not even aware this was available until we came home and checked the website. All in all the worst day out ever and the staff & rules just seem to make life harder than it needs to be.
Disliked: The most disorganised place ever
