Pleasant

Liked: Great staff
Disliked: The bathroom was not very clean. There was too much noise from outside I couldn't sleep. Also the guests were drunk and came to my room several times and left. Horrible experience if you are after 13 hours of travel and can't sleep. But that's not the staff's fault.

Very good

Liked: Lovely reception and barGood atmosphere
Disliked: Bedrooms look like KGB prison, very basic and dated services. Very thin mattress and still using split hot and cold taps. All in all it fit the purpose but a refreshment of the upper floor would be beneficial

Great value for central Bristol...

Liked: Great location in Bristol, near to harbour and loads of restaurants and shops. I booked a single room in the attic of the main building for £50 for one night, which is good value for the city centre of Bristol compared to hotels. It contained a bed, a washbasin and some basic storage. The room was small but functional. I was grateful for the use of the shared kitchen on a floor below. Staff were very helpful in helping me store my bike in the basement downstairs. They were helpful and friendly in general. The toilet was just across the corridor from my room. The shower was a bit further down, however it was not a problem. Both did the job.
Disliked: To get to the top attic floor where my room was, you need to get to the fourth floor (either via stairs or lift), as the main staircase ends there then you have to actually go through the fourth floor corridor to get to a smaller staircase that takes you up to the top. Not a problem when you get used to it, but it is a bit of a bother. I also found that there was a school group occupying the whole of the fourth floor. While I did not have a problem with that (being a youth hostel...), whenever I entered that corridor, a group of teachers / school staff were either congregated there having a meeting so I had to kind of step over them and also if any children were about they quickly ordered them back into their bedrooms. I suspect this was part of their procedures whenever anyone that was not part of their group entered their dedicated space. As much as I understand the general need for this from a safeguarding perspective, it made me feel uncomfortable as how else am I supposed to get to my room? For this reason I must mark it down.
