A decent country pub but...

Liked: Nice village pub with friendly staff , decent food , great breakfast choice , super comfy bed and quality linen.Holybourne is a lovely quintessential English historic cottages and thatched properties. Decent wine list with some of my favorite South African reds. Biltong lovers will be delighted with the menu.
Disliked: I always read the reviews before deciding to book any place. Previous reviews suggested the rooms at the front of the pub were particulary noisy so I called the pub and asked if possible for a twin room in the back of the pub which they confirmed so I booked it. On checking in however we were given a room in the front of the pub as they said the other one was booked. And the reviews were right ( room 4 ) is right above the noisy bar downstairs so you can hear voices and music till it calms down around 11.20 pm and as the windows are old and don't even close without gaps then you hear all the chat outside , cars etc so around midnight there is silence. Room is advertised on booking.com at 31square feets suggesting space but the room was tiny 1/3 of that size and we had to rearrange furniture to get 12" space between the twin beds.I invite the very decent South African landlord to ask his staff to honour agreements made over the phone , give the correct room size on the platform and maybe insulate the windows so the noise outside and cold air is reduced. For a good nights sleep get the rooms on the back and above the restaurant not the bar.

Friendly and comfortable

Liked: Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Nice food and breakfast offering. Car parking on site. Quiet after pub patrons had left.
Disliked: Radiator wasn't on in bedroom despite member of staff adjusting the valve with spanner. Towel radiator was also off on 2nd morning so missed my nice warm towels after my shower!Windows had black mold along bottom edges. Room otherwise in good order.
