Beautiful classy space, just needs...

Liked: The location was great. The hotel decor was beautiful, very stylish yet very welcoming at the same time. The bed was super comfy and the little details really elevated the experience. Genius to have a cut away area in the shower glass so that you could turn the water on and only get into the shower when the water was hot enough. I have never seen that before and I have travelled a lot. It made me want one in the showers I have at home! Also as a lone female traveler, I felt 100% safe in my room.
Disliked: NY was freezing cold but the hotel room was very hot. The heating was not on and the fact there was a fan in the room made me think this may be a long standing issue. It was a little too warm at bedtime and I cannot sleep with a fan on as I am a light sleeper. The room was also very dark. It had three lamps and even at the brightest setting, the room was dimmed. It needs at least one fitting that enables the room to be lit as getting ready for work at 7am in a semi lit room was annoying. Each time I came into the hotel, the bell boys were great but there was always a group of other staff just sitting around chatting paying no one any attention and talking about home. If this is a break out area for staff I think it should be moved as it wasn't in keeping with the classy look of the foyer. I saw this on three different occasions and it made me the customer feel as though I was invading their space and unable to ask for their assistance should I have needed it. Breakfast was great. The foods need to be covered especially the hot choices as it was off putting to have it out and getting cold.

Disliked: Rooms were very dated. We changed rooms as it was very noisy and looked onto a brick wall! Phone did not work so when we were not provided enough towels had to go to reception in my pyjamas! The room was very hot and we were unable to use air con. Not sure who fixed the door handles but they were all wonky along with the mirror in the bathroom.

Exactly what we were hoping...

Liked: Beds were comfortable and the Terrace breakfast and appetizers in the evening were tasty!
Disliked: Not a necessity but a microwave and coffee maker would have been nice perks.

Great location. Small but clean...

Liked: Location was great. Easy walk to Columbus Circle and Metropolitan opera and Central Park and easy walk to Times Square. And subway right next door. Also a fast and pretty walk to all the shops and storefronts on Fifth Avenue. Great access to Macy’s Thanksgiving parade- just a 1-2 block walk down 55th street. Breakfast was great. We did not know there would be a full Thanksgiving dinner- had not been told about included evening food options- wish we had known.It is very hard to find rooms in NYC that sleep 4 adults so we were pleased with that. Decent price.
Disliked: Check in staff and concierge lady were not very warm or friendly. Other staff- greeters and bellman- were very nice.It was not clear to me that there was a $55 PER PERSON PER NIGHT RESIDENCE FEE. That was buried in the fine print. My fault for not reading closely I guess. It was a shock when I checked in and at that point what are we going to do- look for another place for Thanksgiving holiday for 4 people at 5 pm on a Tuesday? I guess this fee covered the breakfast and afternoon food, drinks (and as I said above, the Thanksgiving afternoon meal was a full spread) so it was not a bad deal. I was just disappointed to have $200 a night added on.
