Liked: Nice location. Unique main building.Manager responded to our complain in a positive manner. Room was apparently upgraded due to unavailability of executive room we booked and requested in the main building on the iceleand., but we wish hotel asked us first. The room was with very low ceiling and not inviting, not accessible if you have mobility issues.
Disliked: The hotel is outdated, shabby and not clean. Splashes of tea on the wall in our room. A very dirty lift, please see photos attached. Generally, the hotel looks tired and in requirement of good cleaning and walls painting. It seems as the hotel dishwasher does not work properly, dirty plates, dry egg stuck to cutlery. Piles of dirty tea cups in the lounge after 8pm. Carpets in the lounge are old and seems no one hovers any longer. My husband has mobility issues and we had a room on a top floor where the lift is not accessible. Hairdryer on the wall had exposed wires. The bed was very uncomfortable. Be aware that SPA is only available to guest between 7 am and 9 am for free. I could not find anywhere on the hotel website or Booking.com this information. Staff does not have a dress code and it is not possible to recognise staff. The dinner menu is very basic and overpriced. The hotel does not deserve to be 4*. A very disappointed experience.

Liked: The hotel is so peaceful and in a beautiful location. The hot tubs outside are amazing. The lady on the spa reception was lovely.
Disliked: We came last year and since then the hotel has been taken over. The new restaurant was very expensive for what it was and we had to wait a long time for our lunch to be brought out. £10.50 for a panini which turned out to be just toasted bread in one of those machines. The spa facilities are no longer included in the cost of the room so a charge of £15pp is now payable. The lady on check in was quite abrupt when I asked about the spa and was annoyed that I hadn’t pre booked (I wasn’t aware I had to).

Poor overall

Liked: Setting and views are great (if you are staying in the island at the old building)
Disliked: Poor food. Poor service from staff (friendly but lacked training, numbers and organisation).Room had a good view but carpet could be cleaner. Room temperature was way to hot.Didn’t feel like a 4-star experience.

Liked: View of beautiful stately home
Disliked: The actual accommodation is is in a 1980s modern block. Room was dirty - not cleaned as seen by glitter debris and photos of previous inhabitants on desk. Freezing dining room with average expensive food. . Lots of stairs therefore poor for any mobility issues especially with rickety handrail from reception. Very hard mattress. Noisy room (61) especially from next door’s bathroom fan. Large but bleak decor in bedroom. Very disappointing as had always wanted to stay at this venue.
