Liked: Having grown up in Shepperton and seeing The Anchor and Kings Head both closed in Church Square, when I returned for a visit I thought I’d do my bit for local business and stay at The Warren Lodge. When I arrived, the dimly lit lobby resembled the hotel from Hot Fuzz, full of wooden panels and frosted orange glass, it felt quirky and a bit run down. It was one night. What’s the worst that could happen ?Quick check in and wandered through the hallway to room 18. Freshly painted walls (literally that day !) meant that I was guaranteed a good nights sleep as if the bed wasn’t comfy, the acrid smell of paint was sure enough to knock me out.The room was small but tidy, to be fair the bed and multiple pillows were just the right firmness. The bathroom, however, was cold and had a feel about it like a hospital operating theatre. The extremely bright square light bulb not just showed up every spot and blemish of me but could double up as an x-Ray machine. It also reminded me of the room from Saw. I half expected a clown on a tricycle to wheel squeakily into my room asking if I wanted to play a game. Quick shower turned into a long shower as it was as powerful as a kitten with flu. Using the hotel supplied shampoo burnt my eyes which was a blessing as it dulled the extreme brightness from the UV bathroom light.Anyways, I was needed elsewhere for the evening so I went out.Returning in the dark was a bit more challenging. The single drunk in the garden coughing and mumbling to himself wasn’t a welcome sign. Quickly I made my way through the small corridors with mixture of fresh paint and 1930’s carpet, I unlocked the door into a dark room. Within 10 minutes I had to take an antihistamine. Allergic to either something in the room or the fear of getting murdered in my sleep by the same inebriated fellow still coughing outside my window. I’m sure he was charming but locked the door just for safety.

Very pleasant and restful
Liked: Very nice and quiet and a pretty location by the river. I enjoyed being in the annexe as the room.was very light and airy, as well as large.
Disliked: The curtains and blinds don't quite block out the light. There was no.glass for drinking water.
