It was an ok stay.

Liked: Cleanliness of rooms was relatively good Breakfast was good
Disliked: The smaller of the rooms we booked (Room 26) was quite dated (especially around the window frames where the paint was peeling and chipped. We also had an issue where we checked in late (as we arrived to stay after leaving a wedding locally). The hotel had been repainting some of the room doors (including that of the superior room we booked (Room 2)) so it took 10-15 mins to find the room with the night porter as there was no temporary signage put up! A piece of paper taped to the door would have been helpful.

Handy location

Liked: Located near station, town centre & Burghley House. Plenty of available on-site parking. Quaint old building.
Disliked: Our room was very small and cramped. Difficult to walk around end of bed. Only 1 hard wooden chair to sit on. Had to walk down 4 steps from bed to on-suite toilet & no night light. Other rooms may be better value but our room was overpriced.

We'll be back

Disliked: Especially as the room was very small an additional suitcase stand in the room would have been nice.

Lovely hotel but appalling staff...

Liked: Room was clean, large and very comfy bed. Great location, only a short walk into town. Large carpark.
Disliked: Had an appalling dinner in the restaurant. Staff were rude, didn't act like they wanted to be there. Asked for a bottle of wine and it was dumped on our table and waiter walked away. Starter inedible, steaks we were told Chef will only cook them medium/rare..... they arrived medium/well done with over salted chips. Apple crumble was cold. Asked for the bill and the waiter placed the bill in front of me and held the credit card machine in front of my husband not giving us time to check the bill. He had already put the amount in it. Gave us receipt, the whole while not saying a word to us. When we checked the bill, they had not taken off our starter that was inedible when they had told us they would take it off our bill. Went to check out next day and no one on reception, there was only the waiter we had the night before. I asked could we check out and he just put his hand out to take our key and didn't say a word. Such a disappointment as the hotel itself is lovely.
