Landed in the right hotel...

Liked: Lovely old building with a restaurant and bar
Disliked: The owner had only just taken over, so chaos reigned. Staff were off the weekend and we had to wait an hour for food in the evening with no breakfast service - we were reimbursed for this but it was one of the reasons we chose the hotel. I’m sure things will be fine once the owner settles into a routine, with staffing issues sorted.The room was a little tired, could do with some tlc but en-suite was lovely.

Liked: We wanted a hotel within easy reach of the NEC and this fitted the bill with food and drink on site.However, on arrival we were told that the ownership had changed a few days earlier and that they were no longer providing the booked breakfast. A cafe on the street would be available from 9am with a 10% discount for residents. We were each given £10 off the bill to pay for breakfast...I'm not sure that such a cafe exists in the UK.The manager that we spoke to was very keen to make us comfortable and made a good impression. There was no EE Internet signal at the hotel and no Internet...due to the change if ownership. The rooms were warm to hot (good).It and the communal areas would benefit from a painter spending some time there and titivating the place.However, because of the managers efforts we would return.

Started off a bit chaotic....

Liked: The hotel was full of character, lovely location and room was comfortable. The staff were friendly and apologetic and locals in bar in the evening very friendly. The owner did apologise and although not a great discount , reduced our bill by £20 as a gesture of good will.
Disliked: It was a bit chaotic when we arrived as new owners were taking over, so no kitchen facilities, dinner or breakfast. Obviously with cleaning and painting going on a good smell of bleach and paint in communal areas.

Exceptional

Liked: Stayed here many times over the years - very atmospheric - great bar - (very busy ) free parking - no breakfast option anymore - but well explained no problem - manager and staff excellent at what they do - large bed good size rooms with everything you would need for a couple of nights stay - can't wait to go back
Disliked: Don't think I could fault anything - for that area just all round great value - altho some people could be put off by the noise from the courtyard on busy nights -

Liked: Staff were very helpful throughout even though management changed on day two of our stay and so there was no food on either day.
Disliked: Bathroom in need of some repair but the suite was lovely and we would definitely go back when the new management have settled in
