Pleasant - 3.0 out of 5

Barbara, Kelseyville, visiting Scottish Rite Center Oakland Fri, 9 February 2018

This is an older hotel, with small rooms and a small, older elevator. If you have catastrophe you would not want to spend the night in the room. A great place to eat, drink and socialize.

Liked: Food, drinks and people.
Disliked: It was just okay.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Alicia, San Jose, visiting Fox Theater Oakland Mon, 27 January 2014

When I booked my reservation I chose this hotel based on the assumption that since the price was not cheap and the pictures looked so high end that the hotel staff would be up to par as well. Assuming gets you no where and I should have known. Upon entering the building you are immediately taking in the deep red color scheme and the vintage decor. When me and my husband walked up to the front desk (at roughly 5pm) there was already a woman being helped by the one employee behind the desk. We waited patiently to be acknowledged, then I had to use the restroom - I returned to find my husband still waiting. After 10 minutes or so we decided to order drinks from the bar, which is located in the lobby. The drinks were poured and served. Still not so much as a "Welcome to the Washington Inn" or "I'll be right with you". I was becoming irritated at this point as we had dinner reservations in an hour or so. When the woman ahead of us finally left, the very young man standing behind the desk asked if we needed to check in. I wanted to reply "nope we just like to hang out in hotel lobbies while holding suitcases" but I didn't. He did say "thanks for being patient" but I felt that a greeting to start with would have been nice and gone much further in terms of what I expect from someone who works in the service industry. I was asked for my ID and credit card - after both my cards were declined I knew it couldn't be me. He called the manager who told him over the phone to restart the router. At this point me and my husband had been waiting in the lobby of this fine establishment for almost a half hour just to check in! I was not about to wait for a router to reboot too! No way in hell. I kindly asked if we could please have our room keys now if I left my credit card at the front desk, so we wouldn't be late to our dinner. The young man did give us our room keys but still no apologies for any inconvenience or acknowledgement of time we had been waiting. I was in shock. One thing to keep in mind if you do choose to stay here is that there is no parking, no lot, no garage. You either have to pay $15 a day at the convention center across the street or find parking on the street and pay an hourly rate. Really sucked waking up at 8 am to go put money in the meter when you're supposed to be on vacation. To top it all off: the broken elevator. Our room was on the 3rd floor of this abnormally steep staircase and the elevator was broken. Now if you were the young man behind the front desk this would have been the perfect opportunity to redeem yourself by offering to help us carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs, right? No such luck. I hope the staff of the Washington Inn can read this and improve their service in the future. Cheers!

Liked: Great location; beautiful and clean rooms.
Disliked: Poor customer service; no parking.

Comfortable, convenient and would stay...

Liked: It's very comfortable and the suite was just enough room for me. There are food options near by and it's location was perfect for what I was there to do.
Disliked: I just wish the bar was open. At least for happy hour, but I get why it isn't. So much has changed since COVID. The rooms are also a little dated and could use a touch up, but I like the place a lot and stay there frequently.

Liked: NOTHING!!! THIS PLACE IS GROSS!!
Disliked: AVOID!!!There was nothing good about this hotel. It's in a sketchy location. It was dirty. The carpet was sticky. It smelled bad. But worst of all was the incredibly rude staff. Offensively hostile. Would ask you one question and then interrupt you with another. I got an email at the last minute before I arrived saying if I didn't arrive by 10pm, they couldn't guarantee my stay (but it turned out the hotel was EMPTY). I called to say I would be arriving at 10:30pm and asked about the email. The manager denied having sent it, but it came through Booking.com, so I know they sent it. He said he didn't know anything about it and just said they were open 24 hours and hung up on me. The woman at the desk passed me on the way in as she left to smoke a cigarette. I stood at the counter waiting. Incredibly unprofessional and hostile. I think she sent the email because she has nothing better to do than torture customers. "Continental" breakfast was a joke. AVOID!!!

Disastrous

Liked: I liked the name of the hotel. Washington Inn.
Disliked: The "Washington Inn" was disappointing for several reasons. The hotel was dirty, had a strong, unpleasant odor, and did not feel safe. Despite the expectation of breakfast, there was only coffee and a few pre-packaged snacks in the lobby. Additionally, we were misled about the parking situation, being told it was free, only to discover it was complimentary only until 8 AM, after which we were charged. Overall, the experience was far below our expectations, especially given the cost.
