Great except getting locked out

Liked: This is a very old and beautiful hotel, with two lovely bar areas, and a lovely setting
Disliked: When checking in I was given a piece of paper with the door code for the main door of hotel. Unfortunately it was not stressed to us, that if we forgot the number, there is a 100.00 call out fee if you get locked out, which we did!! I should have taken a photograph of the number, I also feel any call out fee is inappropriate. Luckily a night porter realised we were locked out and came to our rescue.

inconvenient location that stinks of...

Disliked: hotel stinks of rotting fish. carpet throughout is filthy. room was freezing and TWO space heaters could not warm it up. turns out window was OPEN....(sash window, upper pane)

Valentine break

Liked: All staff were friendly helpful and accommodating. Our room was top drawer, lovely and warm with settee to relax. All food was very good, but the Valentine's evening meal was exceptional. Will definitely return!!!

Liked: Nostalgic. Parents used it years ago. Nice old building. Helpful staff.
Disliked: No breakfast available. Bed uncomfortable. Limited availability for dinner.

Disliked: The loudness of the pipework when people shower or use the loo, especially in the early hours
