Very good

GREAT LOCATION & HOSTEL

Liked: I was lucky enough to have the room to myself. The room was very roomy with a good-sized locker. The air-conditioning was good. The location was good for needs.The location and room were quiet.
Disliked: I was a bit scary coming back alone at night. Shady characters hanging around near the entrance at night.I stayed for several days, and the trash bin in the room was never emptied. The trash can in the ladies' bathroom was always overflowing and dirty. The bathroom cleaner (a European guy with an accent) was very rude in the ladies' bathroom. The doors to the ladies' bathroom are directly opposite the men's bathroom. Both the doors to the ladies and men's bathroom were left wide open, so the men could look directly into the women's bathroom in various states of dress and undress and visa a versa. It was very uncomfortable using the mirror and basins to brush teeth and do Trash was always overflowing onto the floor and imposing on the vanity and basin area.The kitchen felt a bit disorganised. I did not understand the numbers where I might store my shopping. It wasn't clear if there was freezer space available. I could not be bothered lugging everything downstairs and back upstairsStaff were OK but not particularly warm and welcoming. I had to follow up to correct their error in case the other bed was booked.It would be amazing if the hostel offered transport to and from the airport a few times a day.

Liked: I've stayed in hostels in Australia, but this one was incredible. 3 months stay, quiet, (very) clean, staff always willing to help. I can't wait for it to reopen in June if I'm still around. 100% recommended

Enjoyed my Safe, Comfortable stay...

Liked: The Village Location is excellent with everything you need close by locally and many interesting sites to visit. The Staff are amazing! Very kind, courteous, consistently helpful and they genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. I must recognize a few exceptional employees, such as Luke, Lea, Maxine and Elena at Reception. Honestly, they are genuinely good people and I would definitely stay at the Village Cairns again
Disliked: I felt sad and disappointed that the Village was closing temporarily until June 2025 ? for renovations, as I wanted to stay another week before my return to Canada. 🇨🇦 Some guests did not follow the reasonable rules to cleanup after themselves after kitchen use, making more work for the staff.

Would not recommend staying here....

Disliked: I was quite disappointed with my stay. The hostel clearly needs renovating as taps in the shower fall off, the floor is extremely dirty, the kitchen is dirty etc. not somewhere I would think of staying again, which is a shame as the other villages are amazing!

Relaxing stay

Liked: Great location and good value for money. Free barbecue with delicious food once a week. Very calm and relaxing - didn’t feel „crowded“ but comfortably spread out. You could mingle but you didn’t have to - not as social as other hostels.
Disliked: The laundry room unfortunately smelled like cigarettes and the bathrooms could use some touch ups as they quite old. The AC in the room kept dripping and we couldn’t change the settings.

Overall stay was good but...

Liked: Stayed in the premium rooms and they were a really great size. Tv was good and good quality. Nice size kitchen with at least 4 cooking stations. Plenty of cutlery and plates. Nice outdoor balcony to eat dinner and watch the world go by. They have a cook up every Sunday night which was really great. Free food and enough for everyone to get at least 2 sausages. The premium bathrooms were nice and modern too. Location is great. Everything walking distance. 2min walk to Woolies.
Disliked: The bathroom weren’t ever really that clean. Always had a weird smell to it. We get given keys to unlock the bathrooms but one of them never unlocked the door with the keys even though no one is in there. We let staff know and they didn’t anything and said it’s occupied when we said it’s not. So majority of the time we could only access one. I had to ask twice for more toilet paper as staff aren’t topping it up when they go in there everyday. The kitchen was always really dirty. You always see the staff doing daily cleans in the morning but it always looks the same in the afternoon. No lifts either. So not accessible especially carrying heavy bags up 2 floors. The rooms aren’t insulated either so you can easily hear people outside. Easily hear people closing and opening the doors during the night. They say have strict curfew from 10pm but they still play music out on the balcony. So definitely is a little loud as the premium rooms are right above.
