Hotel Description
In a peaceful rural location this country house was originally built in 1845. Today the house has been converted into a luxurious privately owned hotel with many beautiful original features. The Upper House is a former Wedgwood residence built for Josiah Wedgwood's grandson Francis Wedgwood. The house still retains its original charm with extensive period decoration and traditional character. It is also a highly demanded wedding venue. There are 24 rooms with attached bathroom all with TVs telephones tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryers. Some of the rooms have balconies and although there is no smoking in the house smoking is permitted on the balconies. Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel. A full English breakfast is included in the price. There are 2 comfortable lounges and in the chillier winter months guests can relax by the real log fire. There is also a patio area and a conservatory at the rear of the hotel both overlooking the beautiful gardens. A elevator serves all floors. The Upper House has a quiet restful location but is just a few miles south of Stoke-on-Trent within easy reach of the A50 the M6 motorway and the region's major road network. Free on-site parking is available for guests.

Another wonderful stay at The...

Liked: Warm welcome on arrival and help with luggage.Comfortable room , clean and very well appointed. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Delicious breakfast in lovely dining room.

stunning location, stunning building, cannot...

Liked: The room was a beautiful combination of old world and period features but with all mod cons.I was expecting the decor to be tired from reading previous reviews but this was not the case at all, the bed linen, towels and toiletries were of a high standard and contributed to the lux feel.
Disliked: a couple across the breakfast room was SO rude, why do other customers spoil the ambience for us all? He was complaining about the breakfast being cold - no need to speak so loudly at the waitress though is there? We found the breakfast beautiful and certainly hot enough. There was a shortage of butter but the staff soon amended it when it was bought to their attention in a polite quiet request.

Great views from a country...

Liked: A fabulous country house hotel. We had the maple suite great room with fantastic views. Very tasty food and well catered for being coeliac. Great staff very attentive and helpful. Great location and good history. Very tasteful decor.
Disliked: Tv in our room was too small for the room. Toilet was too close to the door and wall no need when the bathroom had plenty of room

We loved our stay and...

Liked: Our room was perfect and had a nice sitting area on the balcony. In the evening we enjoyed a drink or two in the bar. Breakfast was great. We loved the room it was in and the pictures on the wall. Good choice for breakfast and great service. We enjoyed a nice stroll in the gardens after breakfast . It is unusual these days to have a lovely stay with no issues at all.
Disliked: Nothing! Everything more than exceeded our expectations.....it was such a lovely experience.
