Liked: Ideally situated in the town of Tewkesbury overlooking the Avon/Severn. Beautiful setting. Loved the little extras and staff so friendly and helpful! Excellent stay!

Good restaurant food but beware...

Liked: Good restaurant and friendly staff
Disliked: This was our second stay this year, the first stay being in a lovely room in the annex. This time, our room 202 in the main building was a little on the small side with nowhere to put a suitcase and the pillows were all very hard.Main issue though is payment with respect to the bar and restaurant. We added these costs to our room which was a big mistake. I queried if they wanted us to sign for the food and drink before retiring each night but they said no, it was all OK. Well clearly it wasn’t as when we came to check out, the bill was astronomical and clearly in error. The issue was compounded by the fact that reception were unable to print a bill and I was forced into looking awkwardly at the screen. £60 for drinks was removed but I was still not happy with the bill, especially since the breakdown did not itemise what food or drinks were purchased, simply “wet” or “food”. I paid with the proviso that the bill would be sent to my email but that never happened despite several attempts at messaging through booking.com and also email. I added up the costs using their menu and we were definitely overcharged. So, my advice would be to settle up all restaurant and bar expenses at the end of each night after checking it.

Ideal for a short stay.

Liked: Characterful, historical, of its era, but a lot of effort had been made to upgrade the facilities. My bathroom was immaculate, very comfy double bed, tea etc in my room, very good tv. The bar and dining area are also well equipped and comfortable. Dinner was basic pub style food. I had a proper pie of the day which was excellent. Would I stay there again? Yes apart from what appears below which are not necessarily deal breakers.
Disliked: My bedroom was illuminated all night by quite a strong green emergency light in the ceiling. I guess it turns red when the fire alarm goes off. Take a sleep mask, which I didn’t have, because it is really bright. It’s a timber framed ancient building so I don’t blame the hotel for installing an up to date fire alarm, but all the same it’s a downer. The hotel is advertised as having a car park at the rear, which is true. But it’s rather small and cramped approached by a very narrow lane off the high street.

Liked: The hotel is on the Main Street but it was quiet and conveniently located The decor was really nice and we ate in the restaurant for evening meal! Food was wonderful and staff were amazing

Friendly, helpful staff make all...

Liked: The hotel staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience - they were friendly, attentive and accommodating at all times, even when under pressure. The building itself is wonderful, with its eye-catching staircase, old oak beams and comfortable seating and ambient lighting throughout. The dinner menu was understated, but by no means bland - the starters and mains were full of flavour - fresh food cooked to a high standard.
Disliked: Only very minor gripes - breakfast was delayed on account of an unexpected number of guests wanting breakfast (who hadn’t booked apparently) and there was a leaky coffee machine in the bedroom. The overhead lighting in the bedroom was quite bright - recommend installing a dimmer switch, or another table lamp.
