Very good

Liked: Staff were very welcoming and proactive. They were happy to change our room and did so with warmth and understanding. Thank you Flora.Breakfast was well cooked with enough range, eggs cooked to order. Bar snacks and drinks were enjoyable. The rooms had nice bed linen and a range of pillows. Location is great, a short walk over the river into town. Parking, though, charged, is not expensive and so could leave it for our two day stay.
Disliked: Room 66 has an extractor fan attached to the outer wall which comes on at 6am as the kitchen. If you're a light sleeper this may be an issue. Please note, the hotel were happy to move us.

Lovely overnight stay

Liked: Loved the location and proximity to town centre. Car park a bonus. Lovely hotel. Nice to have a pub on site for an afternoon wine or two
Disliked: Corridors were stacked in places with piles of dirty linen. Stayed one night but was there on the Saturday and still there on the Sunday. No bath in room. Have stayed before, through booking.com also and had a much nicer room with bath, separate living area, robes & slippers.

Good but in hindsight we...

Liked: Location was ideal for the theatre we had booked tickets for. Parking was easy and breakfast was lovely
Disliked: Attitude of receptionist upon arrival. Yes we were early but were told that it was 3pm as per booking, not a "let me check" etc. We felt like we were nuisance for being there early. Considering we had spent nearly £250 for a night in the Shakespeare suite a smile would of been nice at least. The shower temperature could not be set more than warm which I would accept as a safety feature until running the bath which was scolding

The cherry on the cake.

Liked: This weekend was amazingly and a big part of that was the hotel. It was a beautiful room, with lots of little extras. We will be staying there again.
Disliked: Nothing.

Superb

Liked: Very conveniently situated for a trip to the RSC theatre. Great hotel, clean rooms, friendly and efficient staff and food at the Bistro was very tasty. I would recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again.
Disliked: I couldn't turn the very noisy fan/air conditioning unit off in my room without removing the hotel room card from it's connection slot on the wall, and thereby also disconnecting all the main lights too!!Thankfully however, there were a couple of plug in side lights, so I was able to get around the problem....Ideally, of course, I would have preferred to be able to have total flexibility and choice in the way I which I was able to control noise and light levels in my indoor environment.

It was a last minute...

Liked: The staff were very pleasant and friendly, with lots of advice for things to do and places to go. The car park was very easy to find and plenty of spaces this time of year. The location is perfect for visiting the theatre and the main town.
Disliked: Whilst our room was a good size and well furnished, the sink did not flow away properly and took a long time to empty. I had specifically asked for a walk in shower on my booking, which they offered as an option, but it wasn't pre allocated, so over the bath it was !The entrance hall window did not close properly and the weather was freezing. There was a extra glass to slide shut, but had been left slightly open. We mentioned the sink within an hour after we checked in, and again the following morning, but it was never resolved. The television is not a smart TV, so just the usual basic channels, and no FreeView (despite the control showing it as an option) The last morning at breakfast my husband asked for the full English and could he have his fried egg cooked over hard and was promptly told that you could not make any amendments or special requests as the kitchen was far to busy ! Nothing major, but all very annoying.

Another pleasant short stay at...

Liked: The Location is excellent for visiting the theatre and the town. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The standard of decoration and amenities is really good with pleasant public areas and comfy rooms. Unlike many hotels the temperature in the bedroom is just right. The welcome card and chocolates are a very nice touch and were definitely appreciated
Disliked: Having stayed here last year when we had a lovely large room with a full bathroom and complimentary robes we were a little disappointed with the room this time as we had booked the same rated room. The room was very small but still comfortable this time however there were a couple of mildly irritating issues. The bathroom didn’t have a rail for the towels (only door hook for the bath sheets so no where to hang the hand towels). There wasn’t a toilet paper holder so the roll had to be placed on the floor as the tiny shelf barely accommodated one wash bag. Also the tea and coffee making facilities were in the wardrobe without access to a plug and had to be carried out and the kettle placed on the floor to be used as there was no plug near the small table. This is annoying and potentially dangerous. A little more thought would have improved this small room. So many hotels do this so I doubt this will be taken on board but the self-service toaster is very frustrating as takes ages and the toast never comes out right. Several guests were complaint this. Also the self service coffee maker wasn’t dispensing milk which didn’t bother us as we take ours black but again was causing frustration. The hotel serves a really good breakfast would it be worth considering making the toast and coffee in the kitchen and serving to the table. If it added another pound on the breakfast it would deliver a better experience.

Great location, but cleanliness needs...

Liked: Great location, bed super comfortable. Loved that the hotel offered chocolates, balloons and Prosecco in room, made a nice Valentines surprise for partner.
Disliked: No lift, outdated, not the cleanest unfortunately.Stripped the bed to help cleaners and was disgusted by pillows and duvets, had I known the condition I wouldn’t have stayed. The cleanliness in the bathroom also needs a bit more attention to detail, shower screen, sink and toilet all dirty.
