Reality of hotel nothing like...

Liked: the location of the hotel is superb, right on the sea front, couldn't be closer to the promenade, and easy 2-min walk into the town centre, so can't fault there. The staff were lovely and friendly, very helpful.
Disliked: Need to give the Sefton's photographer a medal because they made the hotel look incredible in the pictures but in reality, this is an old, drab hotel badly in need of refurbishment. The atrium, swimming pool and sea-view rooms all look amazing on Booking.com but the reality is very different, so much so that we were quite upset on arrival. Our 'sea-view' room technically met the description but, being on the 4th floor, the sole window in the bedroom was so small, we had to take turns looking out of it. The bedroom was drab and old fashioned, as was the bathroom.The pool that looks so good in the photos is tiny and nothing like it appears. The atrium is in a rear part of the hotel that we would not have even seen if we didn't go looking for it, same for the 'library' which was a sad-looking room tucked away at the back of the bar.Also, do not go to IoM in December, unless you like everything being closed (including all tourist attractions) and hordes of drunken Christmas party goers screeching as they walk past in the early hours. And if you do go in December, book any restaurants, otherwise you won't get in - and be prepared to be surrounded by drunken party goers.
