A memorable stay in Edinburgh
Liked: Staff were courteous and very nice throughout the stay, even at breakfast time surprising me with a muffin for my birthday was quite special.. The location was great for proximity to the royal mile and other places to visit. Lastly the atmosphere of the building is beautiful and has history about it which I love at any hotel stay.
Disliked: The first night was noisy unfortunately but this I realise could have been rectified upon telling reception, thankfully the other nights were much quieter.

Although a beautiful historic building...
Liked: The room was nice although small. the bathroom was fantastic with large towels and complimentary robes and slippers. The TV was huge and the beds and pillows were comfortable.
Disliked: We had booked the room only rate and by the time you add on breakfast it was very expensive - perhaps what you expect to pay for an historic hotel in this location but it felt overpriced. Due to some problems at breakfast we were eventually offered these complimentary but I think the staff could have been quicker in sorting this out once we explained that their offer of afternoon tea would not work for us. The breakfast tables are small and you cannot fit everything on them and there were limited choices, particularly with the bread for toast which was very disappointing. I have seen a far better selection of breads at much less prestigious hotels. The eggs cooked to order took ages and should have come on separate plates that we could have added other things onto rather than one small plate containing 4 eggs that we had to manoeuvre them off and then have nowhere to put the additional plate. The bacon was very dry and overcooked. On the plus side the tea and coffee was lovely as was the fruit juice and the staff were pleasant.

Good but could be better
Liked: The property and facilities were lovely
Disliked: Staff were good but not very attentive, the room service was not great for our breakfast which was late and missing items. The breakfast waffles and pancakes were dry and they couldn’t tell us if the pasties had nuts in them when we specified a nut allergy but they gave them to us anyway? The fruit bowl was sour which was odd as it was as if it was sitting for a long time and definitely not worth over £50 for breakfast.
