Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Lanny C, Washington DC, visiting Modell Performing Arts Center Mon, 23 September 2013

This was my first time at your hotel. It will most likely be the last. Lanny R. Cawthon Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Retired).

Liked: The view. But then again, I can get that from any number of hotels in the area. I found little else about your hotel to warrant recommending it.
Disliked: Charging my debit card for $100.00 per night at check in. I have travelled world-wide extensively for the past 30 years. This type of charge is unheard of in the really good hotels. It is a blemish on yours that you chose such a policy. Additionally, your front desk staff is rude. They seem well-versed in hotel policy and care little for your guest's side of a discussion. Lastly, trying to get your concierge to get a taxi for my wife and I to the Lyric Theater seemed too much of a trouble for him. Even after one hour - I had to find one myself.

Great view. Hotel great for...

Liked: The location, right on the harbor. pretty view. easy access to local restaurants, sight seeing, kids loved the local parks
Disliked: 1. No hot breakfast provided . also when I booked the hotel, it was very misleading. I was under the impression that breakfast was provided daily and not in a coffee shop. Plus I did not receive the 10% discount that was mentioned in the description when I booked the hotel. I would say its not really family oriented for a family of 4+. Again, price to stay is already expensive. breakfast should have been better. 2. Rooms were decent but expected more due to the price that we paid. There was mold in the shower, the toilet, ran all night which caused our toilet to flood the third night. 3. Was under the impression that the tub in the suite was a hot tub/ jetted tub and not just a normal tub4. Also, no room service? This was definitely a surprise. I really thought for a upper star hotel, this would be something that would have been offered.

Get a harbor view room....

Liked: The location is key. We walked to M&T stadium for a game. We walked across the street to two really great restaurants. The kids loved the pool while we enjoyed the hot tub. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Lots of night life around the harbor and adequate police presence to make us feel safe. The Aquarium was very interesting and much bigger than it looks, great for kids and adults ! This was not our first stay at the Royal Sonata and will not be our last.
Disliked: Really the only thing I could say needed improvement is the cleanliness of the streets around the harbor. There was quite a bit of litter along the sidewalks and even in the water at the docks.

I would stay again solely...

Liked: Location and view from the room on the harbor side cannot be beat. Room size is large and very nicely decorated. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful. Appreciated that the hotel is pet friendly.
Disliked: Value. Only basic coffee/tea offered and not refilled on day 2 without requesting it. Refrigerator but no microwave. I agree with not changing sheets each day but did expect the room to be cleaned and serviced. But this is not their policy - you have to request service. For the cost I did not feel that the service and bath amenities were appropriate.
