Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Lanny C, Washington DC, visiting Modell Performing Arts Center Mon, 23 September 2013

This was my first time at your hotel. It will most likely be the last. Lanny R. Cawthon Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Retired).

Liked: The view. But then again, I can get that from any number of hotels in the area. I found little else about your hotel to warrant recommending it.
Disliked: Charging my debit card for $100.00 per night at check in. I have travelled world-wide extensively for the past 30 years. This type of charge is unheard of in the really good hotels. It is a blemish on yours that you chose such a policy. Additionally, your front desk staff is rude. They seem well-versed in hotel policy and care little for your guest's side of a discussion. Lastly, trying to get your concierge to get a taxi for my wife and I to the Lyric Theater seemed too much of a trouble for him. Even after one hour - I had to find one myself.

It sucked and I will...

Liked: That it was in walking distance to where we wanted to go
Disliked: Staff was poorly trained in customer service. Nobody could even tell us where a luggage cart was so we could get our stuff to the room. We were told to bring our bags into the lobby and leave them on the floor, park our vehicle in the garage and then wait until they could find one. There is no direct route to the parking garage. The area outside the lobby for parking to unload is very small and difficult to maneuver with a pickup truck. We had ask to have a microwave in the room, they don’t have them in the rooms. So for us to fight 4 hours of traffic from the Richmond area to that motel was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE TRIP….

Our stay was great, except...

Liked: Service at Explorers Restaurant was excellent, as was the food. The pool area was clean and well-kept. the view of the harbor from our room was spectacular.
Disliked: Only one receptionist was checking people into the hotel when we arrived, even though there were two on duty, and the line waiting to check in was four people long. Later in the evening after eating at Explorers Restaurant, we returned to our room only to find our key card did not open the door to our room. There was a hall door that did not accept our key card, and this kept us from even getting to our room door. The reception desk was vacant and did not even answer the phone. Finally, I had to go downstairs to find a receptionist, who was not in sight, and she re-keyed our key cards. These did not work on the hall door. When getting back to the receptionist, she said security would have to open the hall door. We waited outside in the hallway for 25 minutes for security to open the hall door. Security told us she did not know why the key cards would not open the hall door, and that this was a recurring problem. This should not have happened, as it seriously detracted from a lovely evening, and took an hour away from our time in the room.

Great place. Would recommend

Liked: Clean, staff was great, Kevin the bartender is a cool dude. A lot in walking distance and felt safe the whole time. Will be back again someday.
Disliked: Wish the little snack shack thing was open later. But just plan accordingly and have late night snacks ahead of time
