Horrifying and not good value...
Liked: The evening meal was nice.
Disliked: The room was tired, in need of serious modernisation, carpet had dubious stains on it, room was freezing, shower was terrible,Paint on the radiator in the bathroom was peeling and flaking off, no headboard on the bed, mattress was wafer thin and very uncomfortable.

Good food and fantastic service...
Liked: The Royal Hotel is going through planned upgrades to its rooms; some rooms are quite outdated in their decor but I've stayed in 3 so far and all were clean, with lovely quality linens and reasonable beds comfort-wise. The public areas seem newly refurbished and are lovely. The food is good but the standout for me is the service: Alex and Nicola simply could not be more thoughtful and caring: they care about the service they are providing and about their guests. They go above and beyond and this quality service is worth more to me than what wallpaper is in the rooms!! Great job Alex and Nicola and thank you.
Disliked: The bedrooms are a bit dated/ tired in decor and facilities but as noted above, this is a work in progress, a programme of upgrades is happening and given the excellent service, this did not spoil my stay.
