A pleasant & comfortable stay...

Liked: We were given an upgrade to a room with a view over the boat pound and the river which, at Christmas, was delightful. The huge bed was very comfortable and the whole room and en-suite very clean. The bathroom contained a jacuzzi which sadly was not working. There was a set of complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. We always eat in the downstairs bar and usually enjoy the food. The barman was very obliging at finding us a table.
Disliked: The hotel is awaiting a complete refurbishment and so the rooms and fittings are in need of refreshing and updating. Peeling wallpaper on the ceiling, dirty pull-cords in the bathroom. We have stayed in this room (1) before and found the noise from next door quite disturbing particularly when the gusts did not arrive back until after midnight then started pulling out noisy drawers and unpacking into creaking wardrobes.Perhaps the refurbishment will include better sound-proofing.Breakfast was included but we found the cooked breakfast over-cooked and the continental buffet limited. No mixed grapefruit bowl or juice. Only choice of juice was pineapple or orange. Few choices of fruit or yoghurt.

Liked: Very good position
Disliked: The room was up a very long way. Rooms were not ready at 3pm and I thought the reception was under pressure and rather abrupt

All too brief, can’t wait...

Liked: Room - Quirkiness, it’s old and unique but clean and comfortable and the extra was a double size spa bath!Food was excellent.Location - in the centre of town on the harbour front, and out of season it was easy to park close to the hotel. I had a room with view of the harbour and river across the street.
Disliked: The hotel is closing end of January 2025 for 6 months refurbishment, so will have to wait to return!

Got a good deal for...

Liked: excellent breakfast. Very comfy bed with river views. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Reception claimed not to have our dinner booking. Room was quite noisy but to be expected from an ancient building. We were put on 3rd floor when I'd already requested an accessible shower - didn't take much working out!
