Tracy, Hull, visiting York Barbican Fri, 25 October 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at the Queens Hotel. The room we had looked out over the river - it was spotless and the room was lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable, which meant a good night's sleep was had. The breakfast the next day was delicious and well worth the additional cost. The staff in the hotel were all very friendly and keen to help. Only problem was the cost of the NCP Parking which cost us £18. We had booked hotel parking but due to flooding this option wasn't available. No criticism at all with the hotel.

Liked: Hotel stay.
Disliked: Car parking costs.

Great city break hotel.

Liked: Fantastic location, easy to get into central York and also to walk to/from the railway station. Great buffet breakfast. Great hotel for a city break with amenities and a plethora of eateries in easy reach.
Disliked: Bathroom functional but would have liked a separate shower rather than climb over edge of a bath but that may have just been our room. Room noisy at times or was for us, on the third floor.

Liked: Excellent location in central York. Easy to find. Good onsite parking (as long as you book in advance). Conveniently located for York attractions. Good spacious room.
Disliked: Breakfast whilst o.k. was rather limited. Better on our second day when there wasn't a coach party there. Breakfast room rather cramped. Small bar with limited range of drinks.

We would recommend this hotel...

Liked: The room was lovely, comfortable and clean.
Disliked: The buffet breakfast was very basic with only tinned peaches apart from Sunday then there was a fresh fruit salad and fresh melon and only fruit yogurt to eat with the fruit instead of natural. The scrambled egg was lovely on Sunday but hard on the Saturday. My friend is vegan and felt that there should have been a larger notice saying about the vegan porridge near the fruit and croissants instead of at the station where the eggs and bacon were being served. These are only observations as we had a lovely time but just thought for the price the quality of the breakfast could have been better.

Hotel near the river

Liked: The Queens Hotel is in a great location next to the river. Very easy walk to The Shambles and markets etc. There wasn’t anything else to make it stand out in particular. The bed pillows are very flat. I was able to book in last minute as my booked hotel had a fire.
