Tracy, Hull, visiting York Barbican Fri, 25 October 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at the Queens Hotel. The room we had looked out over the river - it was spotless and the room was lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable, which meant a good night's sleep was had. The breakfast the next day was delicious and well worth the additional cost. The staff in the hotel were all very friendly and keen to help. Only problem was the cost of the NCP Parking which cost us £18. We had booked hotel parking but due to flooding this option wasn't available. No criticism at all with the hotel.

Liked: Hotel stay.
Disliked: Car parking costs.

Not welcoming or disability friendly

Liked: The property was clean (except for overpowering fake pineapple deodoriser in the hallway). Lack of care when setting up family rooms (missing cups, teens expected to sleep on toddler size mattresses although booking stated age of family members)
Disliked: Unwelcoming reception- alerted in August (October stay) to a customers knee injury but staff expected this person to sleep on a floor level mattress. Senior staff were defensive & unwilling to accept the need for disability accessibility (UK law). Junior staff raised the beds for us. The Hotel manager asked intrusive questions and blamed the customer for not sharing private medical information. Took over a month to reply to booking.com messages (6 Aug-12Sept) then blamed the booking site (1-2 day replies) with other hotels we booked)Reading feedback replies it seems defensiveness is a behavioural pattern from this manager. One of the child’s mattresses had a poking spring that was very uncomfortable. Only one free power point, no usb sockets to charge devices - advertising is inaccurate.

Superb

Liked: Friendly staff arrived early for parking, 12 pm instead of 3 pm. we were able to park cars, which was easy to do, we were able to sit in the bar and order drinks, food was not available to order which was fine, as hotel is 2 minutes walk to cafes and restaurants. Hotel room big, comfortable bed, good prices at bar. Breakfast next morning was lovely and plentiful. We had a great stay.
Disliked: Nothing, everything about hotel lovely

Good

Liked: The location is excellent, just across the river from the old town, with many rooms having a river view. There is a nice lounge facing the river.
Disliked: The hotel is in real need of renovation. There are still such last-century fixtures as separate taps for cold and hot water and noisy bathroom ventillators that don't ventillate anything. Wifi is horrible. There are no power outlets next to beds. Breakfast (standard English) was quite limited.

Great staff, great location!

Liked: The staff were super friendly and the hotel location is great. The rooms have everything you need and are clean. We were able to leave our car in the car park whilst we explored after we had checked out as they weren't busy.
Disliked: Nothing..
