A lovely hotel in a...

Liked: The staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the area and generally accommodating. Anything I asked, they responded quickly. The restaurant food was lovely--I cleaned my plate. I'm coeliac, and I was very pleased at the choices I had on the menu. Lovely soups, too! I went in pre-tourist season and the bar was quiet, a perfect spot for great cocktails while I worked on my laptop. Lovely atmosphere and a great view of the harbour to boot. I went the the spa every day for a pamper treatment and had three different therapists--Laurie, Grace, and Zoe, who were all superb in different ways. The spa was one of the reasons I booked this hotel and it exceeded expectations. The bar area was great for cocktails and had a lovely atmosphere with a great view of the harbour. Watching the sunset with a margarita in hand was a great way to bring in the evening. It was very easy to work there, too. As for location, it wasn't even a minute's walk from the train station, which was a pleasant surprise. Close to all the shops and restaurants, and an solid place from which to base yourself for exploring, or just checking out the local amenities. I'm already looking into my return in the autumn.
Disliked: If I had to criticise, I'd say the single room I booked didn't have a hook to hang my coat and scarf, and there is certainly scope to provide this. I ended up having to hang these on the wardrobe door, which got in the way a little as the door is right there. Awkward. Also, I'd have liked to have a mini-fridge in the room for my water, but this wasn't a big deal. Staff said I could head down to reception and ask for cold every morning, but would be a pain so I just drank my pills with the water at room temperature.

Liked: Excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff. We got an upgrade on our room when they learned that it was my birthday during my stay. We got a wonderful room with a nice view and a very nice birthday present. The hotel has a nice terrace that we enjoyed in the nice weather.
Disliked: The breakfast was not good and the service was slow.

Pleasant

Liked: Pros:Bed is comfy.Staff are nice.Location is perfect.The room is elegant, the bathroom is great.AC was good (which is important for me during the summer)Cons:Parking is inconveniently not in-front of the hotel and must be pre booked and costs 10 pounds a day.The room we got required us lifting luggage up the stairs (no elevator at that section) and no one offered to help.The regular room is tiny.Lastly, the breakfast was par.

Liked: Great location right next to station & ferry terminal and great views over the harbour
Disliked: Noisy due to proximity to taxi rankLots of building rubbish lying around right outside hotel & sometimes on my floor and mess in lift Broken hot towel rail & bathroom was therefore cold - in 3 nights they could not repair it

Good location but over priced

Liked: Breakfast was average as my pancakes were not freshly made and went hard as they’d been heated up in the microwave but my husbands porridge was good
