Beautiful rooms full of everything you could need and with plenty of character. Helpful and friendly staff; great food and excellent location for Colchester Station and town. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would absolutely stay there again if in the area.

It was OK

Liked: Location - near the station, seemed clean, pleasant staff. Breakfast was tasty - but an extra.
Disliked: There was a fly buzzing inside the toilet bowl, which was unpleasant; I would have liked two decent pillows instead of 1.5 thin ones; room was hot but window opened onto a busy street - so I had street noise all night, plus someone smoking just outside the window and there was no phone in the room so I couldn't (being in my pyjamas at this time) talk to reception about these things.

Convenient location and delicious breakfast.

Liked: Great location right in the heart of Colchester. Room was basic but very clean and comfy, just what you need, with good facilities such as iron and board, and even ear plugs. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and just the right amount of everything.
Disliked: Very minor thing but the shower water squirted in different directions. However this was one of the hottest and most powerful showers I’ve come across in a hotel so this outweighed the negative!

The staff were exceptionally kind...

Liked: I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. I had a panic attack and stomach upset about getting to my meeting in the morning and the staff very kindly and efficiently organised a taxi, breakfast that I could eat and me so that in the end I arrived early!The bed was extremely comfortable and despite a back problem I slept soundly.The hotel is centrally located in the old part of the town and is an attractive building of character.
Disliked: As an old building of character the hotel has some access problems. There was a large step up to the entrance, which I nearly tripped over. I think that this is a temporary arrangement while there is maintenance work going on. I was only staying one night, so didn't ask whether there was an alternative entrance. The staff helped me with my luggage.The retaurant is temporarily closed, but there are several restaurants nearby.The bedroom was a bit small, but quite adequate.

North Hill Hotel.

Liked: A large, quiet, and pleasant room. Very comfortable, large bed. Very nice breakfast. Happy to stay there again.

Beautiful hotel within easy walking...

Liked: Excellent breakfast. a short walk from the Mercury Theatre
Disliked: Unfortunately parking in the unloading bay can only be done overnight on a Saturday, or you have to move the car very early in the morning
