A mediocre stay

Liked: We booked a room with 2 twin beds for a 2 night stay. The room was a good size, but the room itself was a little dark, we had two small windows but they weren’t facing a main road so they didn’t let much daylight in.
Disliked: Our first night there was an event in the main reception area and so it was packed, it was a corporate event- some award show with multiple companies in attendance. After the event ended the guests were all by the bar which is in the main area where you check in and go to the lifts to go to your room. Due to the large crowds and people gathered by the bar after the event had ended it was really difficult working through the crowds to go to reception to check in and also to go towards the lifts, it felt really chaotic and not the peaceful first night we had in mind. 1/3 lifts was out of service and it took forever waiting for a lift to go to our room. We were on the 5th floor and it would have been a lot of stairs. Because of the wait for the lifts by the time the lift arrived there’d be quite a queue and the lift would get crowded, everyone had the same complaints about the wait times for the lift. It felt as though they didn’t have enough staff compared to how large the hotel was and number of guests. For example, we called reception for some bath towels and we had a 40min wait for the towels. This was after we had called reception again reminding them of the bath towel request. The bar down in main reception was one of the highlights of the hotel but service was incredibly slow, we had to find a server to clear a table we were seated at, and then it took a really long time to be served / get our bill. Overall, the service didn’t feel like it was in line with the amount we had paid for our stay, and I’m not sure if I would stay here again.

A really lovely hotel

Liked: Great location, beautiful hotel and ambience. Breakfast was lovely, but coffee machines weren't working and NO DECAFFEINATED option. The buffet area is a bit cramped and the floor was sticky. I found the choice and loads of people a bit overwhelming. I'd like to mention Joe who was working at breakfast especially as he was so kind and considerate, what a great guy to have on your staff. Room service was great, massive portions so we over ordered. We were allowed to leave our bags before and after check in and out which was a great help.Would definitely come back.
Disliked: The room was too warm for me to sleep, couldn't open the window due to the noise outside into the early hours and couldn't work out how to change the temperature on the wall gadget.
