Beautiful scenery, but let down...
Liked: The room was clean, the view and scenery were nice, the staff were friendly. The rooms have a nespresso machine, robes to cozy up in, and a nice size tv. I appreciated there were 3 restaurants in the establishment, however, they also seemed to have similar menu items (only 2/3 open when we visited). I appreciated they had a map with the walking trails around the building even though we didn't utilize them during our stay.
Disliked: Their valet service and your ability to get your car period ends at 11pm until roughly 7am. If you like to be able to have that freedom, this is something to consider. I booked the hotel as a local getaway and as I was interested in the historical remodel--parts of their restaurants and library appeared to be done nicely, the hotel rooms being the same size and structure, but I feel much of the inside architectural makeup was compromised and not necessarily treated as I would've hoped. The glass showers in the room do have a tendency to leak, but wasn't a problem when we had a towel crammed directly below it. I did grow up seeing the outside of the building by visiting the park throughout my childhood on multiple occasions, so I have an idea of some of the changes--it's kind of sad. I had high expectations for such a beautiful building. My husband and I also tried Cedar & Elm restaurant during our stay--although going for more an upscale vibe, the food wasn't our favorite; and when we tried to order room service for a more private dessert later, we were put thru to their phone line to the kitchen where no one picked up with no VM situation set up. To wrap it up, as a hotel, there's nothing wrong with it. If you are hoping for an experience, I felt disappointed. For the price, a light breakfast/muffins in rm or something would be nice to be included in the stay, and I would've appreciated more details preserved to maintain the indoor integrity of this historical landmark.

Excellent minus sleeping comfort
Liked: Beautiful property , gorgeous surrounding, nice restraint, very friendly and pleasant staff, clean, extremely quiet..BUT!!! Bed is way too soft, almost like a hammock, got a back ache, was considering sleeping on a floor. With the firmer mattress overall score would be 10+++++++
Disliked: Hammock mattress, way too soft, not good for anyone back

Five Star Stay in a...
Liked: The most attentive, wonderful staff helped make our stay a five star stay. Although the rooms are a bit narrow, they are luxurious and beautifully appointed along with many windows offering beautiful views of the park. The bathroom was just as luxurious as any five star hotel I've visited. The hotel itself as well as the grounds are beautiful with plenty of hiking and dining options. The hotel has two art galleries which we thoroughly enjoyed. We can't wait to return to this beautiful, unique hotel. Many thanks to the outstanding, friendly staff.

Great retreat if you want...
Liked: We loved the expansive grounds and the thoughtful design of the hotel. Easy hike down to the lake and very quiet and peaceful.
Disliked: Shuttles to the local wineries are not available on weekdays. I didn’t know we had to call and set up reservations for the shuttle in advance. The room was a little small but it was okay since we only stayed for one night.

Very poor value for money....
Liked: It was historic.
Disliked: A lot! Terrible lack of public gathering space. Tiny bar area on main level. Terrible loud singer in the restaurant area at 3:45pm and the sound overflows into the bar. We could hear ourselves talk. Small children allowed in the bar on the main level were crying at the next table while we were trying to have a quiet cocktail. The downstairs bar was closed for a private function. The only other relaxation space was a ‘library/games area’. Very very small space. Area littered with disposable plates, paper napkins, dirty glasses, at 5:45pm picked over charcuterie board left out and still there at 6:45pm Complimentary drinks were only bottles of water in a small fridge. Returned at 9:00pm. Table was cleared but the garbage cans were still overflowing with trash. Not an inviting space at all. We were four siblings flying in from LA, Toronto and Detroit to treat our Seattle sibling to a stay and meals at the hotel. There was nowhere in the hotel for us to sit quietly to chat together other than our own rooms. We had 3 rooms, two were adequate, one was an icebox. No heat and then a space heater substitute, which blew the system. At 11pm the space heater was re established! The restaurant is extremely ordinary. Not up to its reputation. No potatoes at all other than French fries! Some excellent offerings but not varied enough. We had an unremarkable celebratory dinner for a very special birthday. Despite phoning ahead, no preparation had been madeOur Dungeness crab Benedict was not even warm, let alone hot. The coffee cups were cumbersome and not readily refilled at breakfast

Extremely disappointing, poor value for...
Liked: The location was good
Disliked: It was not very warm nor inviting. No gathering spaces for quiet chats were available. The public bar was closed for a private party. This limited the opportunities to meet for our small group
