Nice hotel in a lovely...
Liked: The Howard Arms is a smashing pub/ hotel, situated in the lovely little town of Brampton. We have stayed here and dined here several times before. This time we came to celebrate our engagement. The food was good and, mostly, the staff were great. The room was light with a nice view over the High Street.
Disliked: Two things clouded our visit this time, unfortunately. 1. On booking we had requested a table near the fire for our evening meal - this was confirmed when we arrived and also a short time after, when I double checked. However, when we came for the evening meal all such tables were occupied and the manageress (I'm guessing) was very argumentative and unapologetic ('we can't guarantee tables', 'what do you want me to do about it?' etc) when I asked her what had gone wrong. Eventually a table became free - but it was shame to have to have had this sort of argument first, when we there to celebrate a special occasion (and had bothered to ask/ check three times). 2. Not the fault of the Howard Arms but the room was *extremely* noisy - there was some sort of function going on at the Conservative Club directly opposite; loud music till well over midnight made it impossible to sleep. I'd advise people request a room at the rear of the property if they are staying at the weekend.

convenient, full of character, full...
Liked: The breakfast was first class. A properly full English breakfast, with generous servings of everything. The beer choice was good and the atmosphere was brilliantThe location in terms of a day trip to Hadrian's Wall couldn't be faulted. The staff were polite, welcoming and had good senses of humour.
Disliked: Nothing jumps to mind, although....as an Australian visitor, I did find it strange people had dogs in the dining room. More concerning was when they barked at each other and at one point, gums were peeled back and they seemed quite vicious.
