Stayed back in the 50s/60s/70s...

Liked: We stayed in a suite on the second floor. The beds were beautiful, as were the pillows. The bathroom was very clean and well set out.
Disliked: It was a hot day, and the hotel had put on all the air conditioners - thank you. However, they need an overhaul deep inside as there is so much ancient dust in there. Had to turn off all the a/cs and open the windows to air the suite out, as the smell was unbearable. Kept the a/c in the main bedroom on, but after an hour or so and no sleep, had to turn it off because of the horrible smell coming from it. It's an ingrained dirt smell, and possibly a little electrical burning-out smell as well. Had to open the window to air the room and be able to sleep.Also, I saw a mouse during the evening - advised Housekeeping. They couldn't place any traps because we went out to dinner and they couldn't enter.

Disappointed.

Liked: Location, old world charm, friendly staff, extremely clean.
Disliked: Ageing room decor, curtains were old with disgusting stains of god knows what on them. The curtain hem was held up with a safety pin!!! We stayed in a Victorian suite which cost over $800 per night! The curtains were a disgrace. Surely theses rooms should have an upkeep budget! If not, do not charge high class prices for below standard room facilities. To be classed as a 5 star hotel implies you have adequate window furnishings… this room did NOT meet minimum standards and certainly was not 5 star.We were a group of four and one was sleeping on a rollaway. The dining room should have been converted to a bedroom on this occasion.The walls require a paint! One door had a very deep gash in it - disgusting. Maybe from a knife fight?? There were no biscuits to enjoy with a cup of tea either… old world charm stopped in the foyer.Not happy.Have stayed here a few times over the years… this was a complete disappointment. So wont stay again. Not until the hotel renovates the rooms. Not worth the money.

Exceptional

Liked: Location is brilliant. Just off Bourke St and near every thing. Walking distance to most things or urber ride. Staff very helpful and rooms are clean.

Great hotel in a great...

Liked: Great location, lovely staff ! Yes the property is old, but it’s beautiful. The rooms are big and quiet. My room was very clean, had a bath and the bed very comfortable !
