Hotel Description
This mid-18th century former inn offers unique rooms free Wi-Fi and excellent views of Rye. Built around 1750 for local sailors and ship builders The Hope Anchor is thought to have once sheltered the Tenterden Gang who used its old secret passages for smuggling. Relax beside the log fire in traditional cozy bar and enjoy the individually styled bedrooms some of which have a four poster bed. In the morning enjoy a delicious traditional full English breakfast or if you prefer a lighter continental breakfast of cold meats and cheeses yogurt and fresh fruit salad or maybe even have both!! all served in our breakfast room. (Please note we do not serve lunches or evening meals) Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 9.4 for a two-person trip. We speak your language! Good location and price.

Liked: A very good price for the location and the fact that it included breakfast. However the room really needed some updating. The bathrooom ceiling was black with mould, some of the bathroom floor tiles were cracked, the bed was lumpy and we could not get the TV to work properly in that Netflix/Amazon wouldn’t connect (we have an account but couldn’t log in) and the other channels were hit and miss. We weren’t too bothered about the TV but if we had children/teens with us this would have been an issue. The bar and breakfast area were good as was the breakfast. I suspect they will update the rooms and put the price up.
Disliked: See above.

Valentines weekend

Liked: The hotel is situated in the centre and is in a quiet location with great views. Rooms were clean with a comfortable bed. Tea / coffee in the room. Bathroom nice size. The bathroom had a bath with a shower. The only issue with the bathroom was that the shower leaked, and it looked like the seal needed replacing. Staff were lovely. Jane was very welcoming and checked us in. On check out, there was no one around, so I had to ask the waitress who was nice but noted that she obviously had to cover both areas, the breakfast room and reception. Breakfast was good.
Disliked: One staff member to man the breakfast room and check in / out. It's not fair for one person to have to manage both. Some room maintenance needed.

Excellent 2 night stay

Liked: The welcome was great and felt so easy to settle in. lovely room with copious amounts of coffee tea etc available.Happy hour each evening with cheese and biscuits and breakfast was really good. Appreciated a phone call from hotel before arrival to warn us of no parking but easy to find parking and access hotel.
Disliked: Only thing we missed was no draught beer on tap, the lst time we visited we loved the Harveys!
