Staff attitude indifferent; rooms very tired and in need of redecoration. Not one piece of clean glassware or crockery - everything just put on table without checking. Location fine but do not choose this place for a special occasion!

Disliked: Sad; tired; unloved and no attention to detail.

Historic pub let down by...

Disliked: Wall heater (from B&Q!) not sufficient to heat the room on a cold night. Dinner in the pub was average. Coffee at breakfast would benefit from a lot of improvement.

Great stay

Liked: Lovely rooms, modern decoration, great food and atmosphere in the pub but the rooms are in a separate building which means it's nice and quiet. Really pet friendly with a little welcome package for our dog which was appreciated. Would definitely recommend

Brilliant staff, relaxing location, lovely...

Liked: Staff are all brilliant! Really enjoyed our 3-night stay at the hotel. All the staff that we encountered were welcoming, friendly, efficient and professional. There is a nice quality to the restaurant and bar area without any unnecessary formality - very relaxing, especially if you were lucky enough to enjoy the comfortable chairs by the open fire - lovely. Wide range of menu options for both dinner and breakfast. Location is very peaceful and literally a few yards from the South Downs National Park, which was great for walking the dog. Overall a very relaxing stay and it was refreshing to be at a hotel where our dog (well-behaved!) was made welcome too - a big thank you to all the staff!
Disliked: Our room was in need of a little tlc, ie, repair to the window frame to reduce the draught, some paint peeling from the walls, but overall it was a decent size and had all that we needed. The wall panel heater took a long time to warm up the room.
