Good

Liked: The young lady at check in was extremely helpful the rest of the staff were not as good.
Disliked: Staff at both dinner and breakfast were not attentive at all, evening meal was ok as was breakfast but nothing to shout about the hotel as a whole could do with a lot of money throwing at it in

Have found a better place...

Liked: Breakfast was delicious and the staff were very pleasant.Central location. Two small bottles of water in the room.
Disliked: We have been regular, but not frequent, customers at the George for the last 5 years as it is en-route to Scotland., where we have relatives. Over this time, it has got very run down and more expensive.£15 charge for a dog for one night. If a hotel is charging £15 for a dog and saying it is pet friendly it would be nice if this 'friendliness' extended beyond the extra fee. The room was so small ( £131 the night. Club Room? ) we had to walk through the dog bed to get to the bathroom. The hotel feels very shabby: most of the tables in the courtyard of the bar were full of dirty glasses, all around were half hanging artificial flowers and tubs of dead real flowers, two buckets were catching drips in the Reception. The tiny room had massive floor length curtains which you had to push aside to be able to walk up the side of the bed.Dirty! A used towel was hanging on the back of the door, a splot of hardened something on my bedside cabinet needed scraping off. While the main areas, sheets etc were clean all the edges, stairs etc very dusty/hairy.Noisy! It was a Saturday night and the noise abated about 4 am, nightclub music, revellers, deliveries! At weekends choose a back room.£3 for parking. Good Grief!!We booked The Mill Inn, Mungisdale, for our return journey.

Fabulous hotel, lovely staff and...

Liked: Loved this property it’s rooms were beautiful and it had lots of historic charm, although those rooms which hadn’t been renovated were not as good as those which had been. The staff were all lovely and very professional, always there to help. Would definitely go back
Disliked: It was excessively hot unfortunately believe though it was to do with the ancient heating system, it was only a problem at night when the heating was not needed
