Taking advantage of evacuees from...

Liked: Room and grounds were clean enough and, absent how we were treated by the front desk manager in bonafide natural disaster, I was ready to recommend this hotel to friends or family looking for a budget-friendly hotel with a good location for Hollywood attractions, and had told them as much before they turned around and dishonored promises made by their own employee. The security guard, Will, went far above and beyond in aiding my adult daughter and I as we fled from an emergency. I cannot give him enough credit for the help he provided to very quickly re-load two vehicles full of belongings literally minutes after we'd just unpacked both cars. He and the fact that the property itself (although it's actually a motel with outside corridors) actually seemed like a decent accommodation, albeit a little basic for the price, are the only thing that keeps me from TOTALLY panning them.
Disliked: On January 7, Santa Ana winds that heralded the devastating L.A. fires knocked out power to my home. By the next day, the Watch Duty app showed a ring of five uncontained fires growing to encircle our house and we decided to evacuate. Hollywood was the closest unaffected area on the map, so, after calling to confirm they accept cats, I reserved via Booking.com. We shoved as much as would fit into two vehicles and drove to the Dixie Hotel. I explained why we were staying and Fernanda, the front desk lead, waived the early check-in fee (though we were only an hour early). We'd no sooner finished unloading and finally eating something when the Sunset Fire erupted and raced towards the Dixie, with the MANDATORY evacuation zone quickly spreading to just FIVE BLOCKS away from the hotel. As a senior with health issues, I was already exhausted from packing and unpacking both cars, but we had no choice. If it hadn't been for my adult daughter and the security guard, Will, I'd have been physically UNABLE to evacuate again. News/social media reports described a chaotic scene in Hollywood just minutes after we left: people choking on acrid smoke and cars driving the wrong way down the street to escape the gridlock. The front desk clerk, Daniela, assured us TWICE unequivocally at check-out that, despite the reservation being non-refundable on Booking, we'd be eligible for a refund given the circumstances. Imagine, then, my utter shock when Fernanda flatly denied me, characterizing our departure as "choosing to check out early" and deflecting that the hotel wasn't under evacuation orders. We were at the hotel for a total of six hours, most of which we spent trying to save belongings we feared were all we'd have left. Booking got me back some, but I didn't ask for a refund of the $75 parking/pet fees and am still out another $228.

Whilst the location was fine,...

Liked: The Hotel is close to a Metro Station and the Thai Village with lots of restaurants.
Disliked: The ceiling was half painted and the ceiling cornice was not cut on a 45 degree angle. The pictures of the rooms online were not like the room we had. a 20m gap under the door let light and noise into the room. The hotel was noisey at all hours of the day. No facilities to make hot drinks in the room although free coffee was offered between 6:30 and 11am. Our bedside lamps did not work which meant we had to get up to turn off the main light.

Liked: Great location, we had free parking through booking.com but that doesn’t seem available for people booking anymore.
Disliked: Wooden floors always felt dusty, shower was weak and either boiling hot or cold, pool was freezing!
