Hotel Description
The Chainbridge is sited in a unique spot between the spectacular Dee River with it's racing white water and leaping salmon and the Llangollen canal. The The Chainbridge Hotel is in one of the most picturesque places in Wales in a valley of serene and natural beauty shielded by the Berwyn and Eglwysig mountains. Situated on the banks of the Dee River about a 3 minute walk away are the Horseshoe Falls the source of the famous Thomas Telford Shropshire Union Canal which also runs alongside the Hotel. Across the river steam trains pass every hour. The Restaurant offers romantic and magnificent panoramic views of the river. The Tudor Bar is situated in the original building and has black and white beams with its Inglenook fireplace where you can also sit and watch the fishermen fish the river.

Read the information sheet.

Liked: Balcony with river view.Standard of cleanliness.Cooked breakfast was tasty. Also gluten free options.Open fire, was cwtchy.
Disliked: Extra charge for the cooked breakfast. Website states breakfast included, however, did not state continental.Canal side road would benefit from lighting. We were locked out on return at 9:30pm due to not leaving our keys at reception on leaving the property. This was on the information sheet.

Bad

Liked: The view and surrounding area was lovely.
Disliked: The whole stay was awful, from the moment we met the lady at reception until the minute we left. I had booked accommodation for myself and a 2 year old, I was then informed that they didn't supply cots and they were not very polite about this. When asked if they could give us a small spare bed we were told this was definitely not possible, not even a spare mattress was available to place on the ground. The hotel were blaming booking.com for not outlining that they had no cots on their website but nowhere on the hotels website is this mentioned either so people please be aware of this when booking. The room was tiny, there were black dots on the ceiling and 2 of the walls (most likely mould). There was dust everywhere. The "wardrobe" space consisted of a pole hanging against the wall in the room. The bathroom was tiny also. The breakfast was poor that's all I'll say about that.We had parked the car in the car park and given the registration to the reception when we checked in as we were told that the parking was complimentary but I ended up getting 2 parking tickets during the 1 night stay there!! Thankfully these have been sorted after a lengthy process which cos over £60 for an "admin fee".I will not be staying at the Chainbridge Hotel again, the whole experience ruined the holiday.

The experience felt second rate

Liked: The location was unusal, dramatic and attractive. The bed was very comfortable and our room, though rather small, was adequately appointed.
Disliked: We were very poorly informed about the facilities and the parking before our visit. There was nothing to inform us of the approaches to this rather remote hotel, and especially how to find the car park.Staff were pleasant but it did feel rather impersonal.

Passable

Liked: Llangollen was lovely and alot to do.People were lovely.Lots of places to eat..Some of the staff,at the hotel, were very helpful.
Disliked: It said that breakfast was, included, but not, that it was continental. Could not book,a table, after 5pm on Sunday for a meal. Need to get some proper red wine glasses. There was no bedside tables in room. However,it was sorted, when we told,a member of staff..
