And the UK tourist industry...
Disliked: The room was comfortable and the facilities were OK. Unfortunately we were awakened at 6.00 a.m. by people directly above us walking around. Maybe they are staff bedrooms and the occupants have to get up early, but it sounded as if the rooms were not carpeted. The bar is pretentious and inadequate, stocking neither Jameson nor any Scotch blend, but only expensive single malts and bourbons. The young man behind the bar had never heard of Jameson and had to ask his manager if they stocked any SCOTTISH blends – his emphasis. Two large gins with mixers cost over £24. As I picked up my wife’s glass I noticed the top half was very warm, just out of the dishwasher, and I asked that it be changed. This was done out of sight so I have no idea what took place. I don’t mind my local pub training staff on the job, but not at somewhere with pretensions, and at my expense. The dining room was a challenge. The list of main courses is long and gives the impression that it must be based on catering packs*. We chose the cheaper end of the menu: I had fish and chips which was edible but that’s the best that can be said. My wife had *Cumberland sausage on mash, a catering pack favourite.Breakfast was good. We did not bother with wine as it was over-priced. I was tempted, out of curiosity, to try the Austrian rioja (sic), just to see how well it had travelled from North East Spain to Austria but decided against it at £38 a bottle. We won’t be returning.Next evening we ate at a Mediterranean restaurant across the road, which was excellent, very busy and all cooked fresh. There we met some people who live near Bridport. They were not complimentary about what The Bull has to offer.

Very comfortable
Liked: Location, comfort, cleanliness
Disliked: Staff brusque and rather off-hand. Too keen to remove my plates before I had finished. Tried to take my muesli off me twice. Had to hold onto it, and ask for more toast at breakfast (at 8.30 there was no visible supply of toast visible) and when it came it was without any supply of butter. Pity as all else was excellent.

Nice break
Liked: Great sized room asked for shower rather than a bath which we got.
Disliked: Decor could be better, breakfast was average.
