Nice place and staff are...

Liked: Loved Fran (Francis) she was so welcoming and helpful when we arrived here at Bug Backpackers and made our stay very enjoyable. We had a room with a queen bed, and it was so comfortable. The room was nice and big with a lounge chair in it. We had a shared bathroom, and it was very clean. The kitchen and lounge area were great, clean and tidy.
Disliked: Only thing bad I could say is the toilet door squeaked and in the middle of the night it seemed loud as you are trying to be quite and not wake people. I would definitely stay here again as it was value for money.

Ok for the price, not...

Liked: The manager was very friendly when we arrived. Very comfy and clean room, slept well. Clean kitchen too. Location good but we used it as a base for Abel Tasman so didn’t see much of Nelson.
Disliked: Mostly long term male residents, I did not see one other backpacker when we were there. Not a great vibe to the place. I was with my partner but I personally would not have felt safe as a solo female traveller. There was a guy who seemed to live and sleep on the sofa of the main lounge too.

Satisfied

Liked: Great hostel. We had a private room with shared bathroom and we felt almost like in a hotel. Highly recommend that place.

Will not book this place...

Liked: The day we were leaving, the older lady at the desk was kind to my kids.
Disliked: We walked in late night, after travelling 6hours and were met with the smell of marijuana in the leaving room. Also, only 1 toilet and 1 shower, had to be waiting for a bit to use. We ended up leaving 1 day earlier than planned.
