disappointing
Liked: staff demonstrated professional skills for the most part. the check in process was thorough with paperwork and explanations and we had help with our bags up the stairs. location is central to Lavenham which is convenient. the historic character of the building is a positive in my opinion.
Disliked: despite booking and paying for deluxe double rooms we were given standard doubles.one room had no heating and in mid December was uncomfortably cool.check out process was conducted by a junior member of staff so no opportunity to discuss dissatisfaction. also told us more money was due for drinks which was not correct but luckily another staff member was able to agree with me that was a mistake- no apology though.overall left with a poor feeling, like we'd been 'processed' at best and had over at worst. no 'thank you for staying' etc

stayed here previously and it...
Liked: I didn't have breakfast, but my friends did and they said it was ok. Wasn't included in our booking so was a chargeable extra and note printed on menu says "not included in booking.com reservations" so obviously other guests had thought it was. No one else sat for breakfast while we were there and we only saw one table occupied for meals the whole time we were at the hotel. The Lavenham area is great with many nice bars, tea rooms, restaurants and hotels. The Angel now only seems suitable as somewhere to have a drink at the bar.
Disliked: Staff poorly trained and not very welcoming. The first room we were given (ground floor (number 7 I think)), smelt unpleasantly damp/ musty and was not fit for occupation so we asked for another and they moved us to a first floor one (number 5?) that was habitable. Seemed clean but very run-down with broken window pane and sash cords, chemical smell from bathroom so that door had to be kept closed and generally in poor repair, pillows pathetically thin. Next morning no hot water from shower so when checking out I complained to the acting manager, when I could tear him away from eating his breakfast in a corner of the bar,. He told me it was because that room shared a boiler with another room. It's a very, very old building with an aged fabric, not a purpose built Hilton etc so you make some allowances but this is just tatty now. Other historic hotels in the area overcome the problems of old building. When we stayed at this hotel a few years ago it was nice, now it is not nice. We would not stay here again.

Liked: Convenient location, ease of parking, character property, cosy bar used by local folk.
Disliked: Breakfast not included if booked through booking.com. Quite an expensive breakfast so we chose to eat out locally.

Right up our street
Liked: Met our top 3 requirements: a clean, comfortable bed, informative, helpful staff with a friendly vibe.
Disliked: It's an old building, so no expectations it is what it is. Wouldn't have it any other way... unpretentious...

Superb
Liked: Love this pub. Homely, warm and everyone very friendly. Lovely big room and quiet.
Disliked: No iron but not a real issue and didn't ask for one so probably one available if we'd really needed it. Couldn't fault anything else.
