Run down 2 star hotel...

Liked: The lobby and restaurant renovations are great. I've stayed at the hotel before, prior to that work being done, and it's a HUGE improvement on the first impression when you walk in. It's a little bit weird how subservient to the restaurant the hotel is in terms of layout (the check in desk looks like it was almost an afterthought), but the improvement over the old lobby is so big that it's a positive no matter what.
Disliked: This is a 2 star hotel calling itself a 4 star hotel and charging 4 star hotel prices. The lobby renovations are good because the old lobby was musty and gross with a bad smell, but the rooms haven't been renovated to match, even though the website makes it seem like they have. Summit NJ isn't exactly Manhattan, so there's no reason the rooms should be that small. And even if they have to be that way, they need to be renovated. It feels like I'm staying in the most generic, dated hotel that's just one step up from a nice motel or extended stay place when I'm in the room. Also, the "cute" note about the elevator being broken but the stairs still working was not that funny by the third or fourth time I stood there waiting forever for the one operating elevator to show up.

Disliked: Hotel is lacking in amenities. The rooms are rather lackluster but they may still be renovating those interiors

Very good

Liked: Good location for Summit and staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel had recently been taken over and being refurbished. It's a much better hotel than it was before with good bar and restaurant.
Disliked: The room and bathroom facilities were comfortable and clean, though the air heating system was dated and noisy. Though perhaps this will be part of the update.We will stay here again.

Always enjoyed staying here but...

Liked: None only coffee and it was meh
Disliked: No longer feels like a hotel, all about the bar, as a guest you are a second thought.

Needs a lot of improvement...

Liked: It's a lovely antique hotel and the restaurant in the lobby seemed very nice, though I did not eat there.
Disliked: The front desk was spottily staffed. There is no fitness center. The only coffee available in the morning is from an automatic machine that wasn't sufficiently supplied. Room was small and a little dingy. Internet did not work.

Liked: The service provided by the team from housekeeping to Reception was excellent, the room was clean and appreciated having tea/coffee facilities available in the room.
Disliked: Unfortunately, the hotel was undergoing a renovation project and there was no breakfast provided within the two weeks. In addition, the noise from the renovation at times started early in the morning so unable to relax but looking forward to returning once the renovations have been completed to see the outcome.
