Great location and team. Room...
Liked: Location
Disliked: Always feel when book through booking.com you get allocated the oldest, most remote, cold room. I had an issue with my room and the Duty Manager was supportive and followed up. But I would have preferred a good nights sleep.

Good value for the price...
Liked: Breakfast was great. Lots to choose from. Property is charming. Staff could not have been more accommodating. Only negative is that rooms are mostly small. But bed is really comfortable
Disliked: No elevator so stairs to climb. But for some people this is not a problem.

Charming hotel in great location...
Liked: The staff are wonderful - everyone makes you feel very well taken care of. The beds and linens are super comfortable, and the room was very clean. There are lots of little treats like complimentary mini bar etc. Everything is very well appointed. Overall, a charming boutique hotel in a less busy but still central location and very reasonably priced considering other similar options
Disliked: There’s no elevator. We asked the reservation line several times to confirm the room we booked would be available on the ground floor - they gave us wrong info but the reception team bent over backwards to ensure we were on the ground floor. I advise booking directly with reception. Also, the hotel is located in an old building - most of London is! I think it’s part of the charm, but expect small rooms and bathrooms and grounds that are aged. Our room also had a leak from upstairs but the staff were very quick and attentive to the leak/us.

Make sure you have breakfast...
Liked: The best part was Rita at breakfast every morning. She made our stay memorable. Works really hard to make each guest happy.
Disliked: Difficult for the taxi to find the front door.

Pleasant
Liked: very clean room, staff were helpful, comfortable bed
Disliked: Breakfast VERY disappointing. Was a continental breakfast which wasn't made clear on booking. Was offered some scrambled egg, that a staff serving member cooked for me as I am dairy free. I thought I had booked a full breakfast, it was bit like a youth hostel breakfast which for the price was very disappointing.

Great luxury boutique hotel to...
Liked: The overall interior design, location and proximity to places like coven garden. Friendly staff, very high quality bedding and toiletries and amenities. And good quality continental breakfast.
Disliked: We found all communal and guest rooms very hot. This made parts of the experience uncomfortable. Staff were helpful when flagged to open doors and/or turn off hot air conditioning but all 5 in my group found it too hot.

While I truly appreciated the...
Liked: We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Academy, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, and it was an unforgettable experience. The location of The Academy is perfect for anyone wanting to explore London. Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, it’s just a short walk from iconic landmarks such as the British Museum, Covent Garden, and the West End theatres. The area is quiet yet central, offering a perfect balance of peace and accessibility to London’s major attractions.
Disliked: Soundproofing is an issue. The hotel is located on a busy street, and I found the noise from traffic and street life to be quite loud, especially at night. Additionally, the hotel itself is quite noisy internally, and sounds from neighboring rooms or hallways can be heard easily. For light sleepers, this might be a concern. It’s also important to note that The Academy does not have an elevator. If you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns, this could be an issue as the hotel is spread across several floors. I didn’t mind it personally, but it's something to keep in mind when booking.
