would stay there again

Liked: Excellent breakfast, location was perfect for me with my association with institutions in Bloomsbury and friends in North London. The rooms for single travelers are very small, and the first night it was up long steep stairs but since I am old they moved me to a small room on a lower floor which was very comfortable and convenient. The bar which served good food and back garden were lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: no complaints

A luxurious little hotel where...

Liked: A beautiful and immaculately clean hotel in the perfect location for getting about Bloomsbury, Fitzrovia and Soho. The staff were delightful and the service was excellent. The birthday balloons, wine, and wonderful note left in the room for my friend made us feel very looked after. Great breakfast.

Let down and disappointed with...

Liked: Arrived and we were pleasantly surprised the hotel was lovely, modern decor and the staff who checked us in were lovely, free water on arrival. However, when we got back to the hotel a little later in the evening we asked the man at reception if we could go to the bar, he was rude and shouted it’s closed. We asked if we could get two glasses of Prosecco for room service as that was stated as 24 hours and he was rude and reluctantly went and got us two glasses whilst making us wait. Very disappointed. Breakfast says it’s included but it was only continental and not any of the cooked breakfast items, that was an extra £15 and we were only allowed one coffee. Then on check out, the man took payment from my card despite me telling him it was already paid for, he then wanted my Husbands card details also which we refused as they already had mine. Upon arriving home I have found that the hotel have charged me twice for one night stay, and have informed me it was my fault for using two different cards which I did not do, the money has come out of the same account. I now have to wait 5 days for a refund. Disappointed to say the least! The hotel itself was lovely and the complimentary mini bar was nice. The staff and experience of now being short of money has ruined it. Oh and they added on a service charge so the price was £17 more than when I booked it. Which they didn’t tell me was optional until after I paid.

Very charming hotel, great staff,...

Liked: Very nice hotel made of several old houses stacked together -- very charming, and the location is amazing (very close to the British Museum). The room was spotless clean and the bed comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice. The hotel has a small garden (closed when I went) and a nice reading room.
Disliked: The room was on the 4th floor with no elevator, so you need to be fit! That said, the staff carried my suitcase up and down the stairs without me even asking. The room was really, really small but well kept.

Fine.

Liked: Location and room excellent.
Disliked: You should have specified it was cold breakfast only. Poor effort. Also, you put a charge for a tip on my card which I instructed you not to as it is a business card.

Not a 5 star luxury...

Liked: The staff were kind.
Disliked: This is not a 5 star luxury hotel, the experience was closer to a bed&breakfast. It is unfortunate that it is marketed as such, because it creates expectations that the hotel cannot fulfill. Very disappointing experience.

Superb

Liked: This hotel is levels above the others in the area in the same price range - it is cosy, friendly, nicely decorated, with a garden, bar, library and sitting rooms, so if you were there for a while you wouldn't be limited to your room and can relax around the building. Also does a sophisticated breakfast; not just fry-up!
Disliked: London is just really expensive - for less money we stayed in an edwardian hotel in Manchester. But, as I said above, the Academy is great value considering it is in London!

Overall, a decent stay with...

Liked: You'll feel right at home with our friendly staff and secure, controlled entrance, plus a 24/7 reception to welcome you any time of day or night. The rooms feature comfortable beds, beautiful décor, and a large TV for your entertainment. You'll also find a handy in-room safe, a fridge, and a shower with impressively strong water pressure. In the morning, enjoy a tasty continental breakfast, and don’t miss the beautifully designed communal lobby areas—perfect for relaxing or catching up with fellow travelers.
Disliked: The room is small for the price. Some finishings need repair—bathroom floor tiles are moving, wallpaper edges are peeling, and the room door has large gaps that let in light from the corridor. At night, you can hear sometimes creaking noises from people walking in the adjacent rooms. The sink tap is also loose and needs tightening.
