Liked: The staff are genuinely friendly and very helpful.The food is very good and portion sizes are large at both breakfast and dinner. The hotel is very clean and the decor is in keeping with the period of the 18th century building. It’s in a great location and the grounds are very well maintained. Our room overlooking the gardens was very comfortable and quiet so we slept well. Many of the guests are repeat customers.
Disliked: There was nothing we didn’t like!

A disastrous start to our...

Liked: the breakfast was absolutely top notch. The dinner meal was also good. The staff in the dining room were excellent. There was a very professional air about the place. We also appreciated very much the help one staff member made in hauling our bags up to rooms 17-18. I am 92 and couldn't possibly have done this, given the dangerous steps leading up to the room. Without his his help we could not have stayed in the hotel.
Disliked: It was not clear to me when we booked with Booking. com that the room offered was located at the top of the hotel and was only reached by steps that were so narrow and precipitous that I, as a 92 year old, and my wife, 89, could not have carried our bags to the room. The problem was that when I booked through Booking.Com, there was no description of the room. Apparently the hotel sent a message warning us of the conditions of the room, but that escaped my notice. You can't expect people who book through Booking. com to expect to read additional conditions after having booked!! The day was saved by the person alluded to above who carried our bags up the stairs and we found the bed and bathroom OK.
