A little dated but lovely...
Liked: Lovely location. Room was a good size and nicely decorated with basic facilities. Lovely view. Bed is a good size. Although the bathroom could do with some maintenance, I would stay again.
Disliked: The bathroom was a bit dated. The shower had good pressure, but part of the shower head was loose, the screen overhang the bath and so the floor got flooded and the toilet flush got stuck.

Staff incredible but hotel needs...
Liked: Staff were amazimg. Dinner also extremely good
Disliked: Bathroom needs a refit. No plug (which did get sorted). Door at the top of the stairs made access difficult with a suitcase. Carpets in hall and ground floor need replacing.

This hotel is a gem!
Liked: We LOVED a great deal about this hotel. Especially having just paid over 400 pounds ($800) for a room in Salcombe, with sensational sea views (it was on the beach), but where everything else was underwhelming (room okay but not $800 special). Food same, and expensive. This lovely little hotel however was a fantastic surprise! We hadn't expected much initially from the images, but I wish we had stayed here for our two nights away. It is a lovely old building with an interesting history, run as a 3 star hotel. It has been taken over recently by a family, two of whom are a young couple, with considerable passion and hospitality experience from a couple of London's top hotels. They were delightful to deal with and couldn't do enough for their guests. Currently it is a 3 star hotel, but the couple are planning to revamp it room by room. They have already revamped/modernised the bar area that has been sensitively and tastefully done, and perfect relaxing place to enjoy a G+ T! If this is the standard to expect by the time they are done, it will be a top class 4 star hotel, so be quick and book a room whilst you can, as their rates are extremely reasonable currently and the hotel is comfortable and clean. We loved it, and will definitely stay again! We visit the UK annually. The hotel was sparklingly clean, the staff incredible - passionate, helpful, and on it! We had a sea view room, and though the hotel is set back a bit from the road, the views of the sea were lovely and the hotel grounds spacious. The bed (number one for me) was really comfortable and the room, though not huge, more than sufficient. You get personal service here guys, + dinner was delicious. The hotel also has an outdoor heated pool, and a smaller indoor pool and jacuzzi that we enjoyed! We loved staying here and can't wait to see what the family do with the place.
Disliked: Nothing!

Kudos to Myles and Alex...
Liked: We were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived. Our friends who had flown from Texas to attend our wedding on the weekend prior, were equally impressed. Dinner was a special treat as we were joined by another couple who had been at our wedding and booked a room. Breakfast the next morning was perfect. We would recommend Stoke Lodge to anyone wanting to vacation in a very well run Hotel.

If you are disabled and...
Liked: The location is good. Plenty of parking space.
Disliked: Diabled facilities were practically non existent. There was only one "grab handle" in the bathroom, barely any room for toiletries. Not good if you are alone and registered disabled as I am. No grab handles on two sets of two stairs - they were ripped off a week or so ago I was later told. It should have been a priority to replace them. Outside there is a ramp from the car park to the hotel entrance but, although not very long, is far too steep for anyone on their own in a wheelchair or a mobility scooter. I have a scooter but I did not even attempt the slope. To get into the hotel you have to step over a ledge but again I was told later they have temporary ramp they can use. The restaurant is on the floor below the entrance and reception area but I was told if I wanted a meal it could be brought to the lounge area immediately behind the reception desk but I wouldn't get the same choice as in the restaurant. On check in one of the co owners took my case to my room (I don't need my scooter for short walks and had left it in my car). He said he would be back shortly to make sure everything was alright. He didn't come back so I went to reception. No apology from him but I asked what was on the menu. It was now 5.00 p. m. and he didn't know because the menu is changed daily and the chef hadn't delivered them yet. No sooner had he said that the chef arrived and the menus were just on an A4 piece of paper - not very professional! There were only three items to choose from with two courses costing £37. Breakfast is £17. I declined both dinner and breakfast.I had booked and paid for three nights months in advance but decided one night was enough so I checked out. I didn't expect any form of refund and that's exactly what I got!! Needless to say I shall not be going there again and I don't suppose for one minute I would be welcome. I was fotunate to find another hotel for the two nights and it was as different as chalk and cheese.
