Very good

Liked: Excellent base for exploring the Derbyshire and Staffordshire dales and peaks.Well-maintained period property offering bed and breakfast in a peaceful location. Our room was well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk and cold water in a fridge in an alcove in the landing hallway. The en suite facilities were excellent, as was the soundproofing - we couldn't hear anything from the other rooms. The view from our windows was very pleasant.Central heating seems to come on at 07.30, so if you're an early riser before then it can feel a bit fresh during the cooler days, but that's all part of proper country living. The downstairs drawing room was very comfortable with a superb open fire. We managed to sit peacefully by the fireside reading our books one evening, although when other guests were ensconced in there chatting on other occasions, we chose to avoid the room as we felt we'd be intrusive. The wonderful high ceilings and original artwork painted on the walls give the property a unique identity. The owner was most welcoming on our arrival, offering us tea and coffee and some tasty homemade delicacies.
Disliked: Inconsistency with regard to the quality of the breakfast. The middle morning of our stay was disappointing, with some items missing and half measures of orange juice and toast. We didn't complain because the person on duty that morning seemed under pressure for some reason. We didn't appreciate one of the guests speeding by the windows of the property unnecessarily during breakfast, kicking up gravel and behaving in a reckless manner. He hared off at speed up the road to somewhere and returned ten minutes later, parking inconsiderately very close to the entrance of the property. There is an advisory sign clearly visible as you enter the driveway, to drive carefully.
