Liked: Staff were very friendly and we felt they wanted us to enjoy our stay.The breakfast was very nice.We had a good sleep.Good TV and free wifi were appreciated.The room was cleaned to an acceptable standard.Toiletries provided, soap smells lovely.Room is very spacious.
Disliked: These are not complaints, just notes really, for further improvement.One of the radiators didn't work so we had a chilly night.The mattress needs a mattress protector on, although we checked and the mattress was stain free and clean at the time of our stay.The windows need cleaning on the inside.One window has no curtain.Room and bathroom lack adequate lighting, some bulbs are missing. Although there are mirrors, ladies may find it tricky to put their make up on in the dark..Both taps at the sink say 'hot water' on them, we weren't sure if tap water was safe to drink.The family room could be improved by adding a sofa and wardrobe to use the space better and to make the room a bit more homely/inviting.If the hotel provides food, a menu would be useful in the room, to let people know that food is served and when.As the hotel is not at the greatest location, maybe you could spend some time putting together a little booklet of nearby or not so far away attractions to see or go to, this may make your customers feel that you care about them. This wouldn't cost much but is a nice touch. You need to provide something for the price your customers pay so they feel that what they pay is value for their money.The carpets in the hallway and stairs need a good clean.These things are easy to rectify, just a little bit more attention to detail and cleaning needed to make the hotel more inviting. A little extra care here and there and it will be great. Also, ambient music in the dining area and better lighting would make the area feel nicer.This hotel has so much potential, hopefully with time it is going to get better. In my opinion, they should focus on doing up a few rooms and reception area, hallways to a great standard first, to get happy customers and great feedback, then as word gets out about the good standard, more business and money would come in, they would be able to spend on further improvements.

Didn't expect that...

Liked: Staff were friendly, we had to call the night manager, as he was helping out on the bar (not an issue, good to be stuck in) didn't take long, showed us up to our room and it was stunning to be honest! Very much unexpected! For the price, wow! He also warned us that our room was very close to the pub part of the building, and it being NYE it would be a bit noisy. We didn't mind, we were there to go to a friend's for the celebrations, but appreciated the heads up. Bed was huge, unexpectedly soft, but that's not a bad thing. Bathroom was exceptional, huge and had everything. Even the fabled Bidet which no one uses.As I understand this place is under new management, and has had a hefty refurb so although in many ways it's unconventional,it's very much worth the money!
Disliked: Nothing stands out as we didn't like, we had seen previous mixed reviews and were a little apprehensive.
