Overal ok but improvements needed..
Liked: St Andrews hotel has a pretty exterior and is a refurbed hotel in a Victorian style near a main road. It is close to Exeter town centre and breakfast was good with a great chef who was helpful with my partner and I. The bedrooms are kept clean and have tea/coffee options.
Disliked: Unfortunately the water temperature was dodgy and other guests experienced the same. Around the skirting line just outside the shower there needs to be more sealant as the water has created damage there. Our room (1) was far too warm all the time with a hot pipe running through it. Also the bathroom was too warm all of the time..This badly affected our sleep. One of the hotels workers offered us a different room but we felt he tried to justify himself during conversations and seemed tense a lot. The bedroom window could be left wide open or opened a small amount which left a lot to be desired. One of the breakfast workers was rude and created stress at breakfast for my partner and I, this included being heavy handed with the crockery and speaking out of turn. We think adding mushrooms to certain dishes and the option of having porridge to the breakfast menu would help. Also starting a curry night or another style of cooking could benefit guests stay and encourage others to enjoy the grand old building. At times there was no one at reception when we needed assistance, we believe more staff is required to help with the running of the hotel. The window blind cord attachment in r1 would disconnect alot when we wanted to pull the blinds up or down and the bed frame corners were too sharp. There was excess dust left just above the bed board on the wall. The bathroom glass shelf was fixed at such an angle that items would fall of it easily. Some plants or greenery of some kind would help create a healthier and more pleasant atmosphere in and around the hotel as it felt too clinical and sparse. Outside R1 the stairs would disturb us as they creaked too loudly, perhaps more support will make them quieter..?

Good breakfast and facilities apart...
Liked: Room was lovely and decor throughout hotel was beautiful. Car parking good.
Disliked: Our room was in the top floor as I was with my elderly mum it would have been nice to have had help with bags up the stairs … also if we had been made aware of number of stairs would have reconsidered booking

Great short stay!
Liked: Really helpful to have free parking. Compact but well serviced and clean room within easy reach of the city centre. Good place for a short stay.
Disliked: There is no lift and reception staff were a bit abrupt.
