Sophiendal Manor was built during the 19th century in the Renaissance style and the spectacular setting among vast forests lakes and rivers creates a quiet atmosphere. The oldest church in the country built in 1058 is behind the manor. Located in the highlands between Ejer Bavnehøj and Himmelbjerget Sophiendal Manor is one of Denmark's most beautiful estates. Close to Skandeborg and just a 30 minute drive from Jutland's capital city Aarhus Sophiendal is a base for guests that want to visit Moesgaard Viking Museum Legoland and Randers Rainforest the latter is Northern Europe's largest artificial rainforest. Sophiendal Manor has elegantly decorated guest rooms which includes canopy beds and period detailing. The old farm buildings have been converted into conference rooms with modern facilities. The spectacular grounds include many rare trees such as a lime trees with a 11 ft circumference. Take some time to explore the grounds. Each Saturday a wine tasting is held in Sophiendal's wine cellar. The restaurant at Sophiendal Manor is in the eastern wing and has access to a large relaxing terrace.

Pretty house, boring place

Liked: The house is pretty and has an interesting history and well thought through decor.
Disliked: Theres a somewhat busy road right in front of the manor. The place is a bit run down, and theres no lunch, no fridge, no nearby shop or caf. Dinner is ok, but not matching the manor standard; no plates for bread, plastic single butter, pleasant but untrained staff.Seems the rig is set for people to come and dine and spend one night. Not a day.

Liked: Nice old building, good food (but limited selection), reasonable pricing
Disliked: Check in procedure was odd, got first the room, which was not cleaned (used bedding and towels), obviously confusion but there was not much regrets about that. Only 2 persons at work, personnel was lacking information how to check bookings or whats in the menu. Obviously there are some oranizational issues, service was otherwise alright.
