Suited the purpose but nothing...

Liked: The hostel was very basic, but it was clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen was big with plenty of space to be able to cook.
Disliked: We didn’t find that this hostel was a good place for meeting other backpackers as it felt like there were a lot of long term stays. The communal areas including the swimming pool weren’t very inviting.

Good location. Friendly people. Hospitable...

Liked: Lovely city views outside the window beside my upper bunk bed in the 8-mixed dorm on the second floor. Close to convenient stores, Coles, Aldi, Southbank parklands, bus stops and train stations. It's a big place with a table tennis table, a swimming pool, a clothesline, a kitchen and many outdoor chairs and tables. The backpackers provided many free festival activities including Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas BBQ. Amazing hospitality.
Disliked: There is enough room to have a table somewhere in the dorm or in the bathroom but only a shoe rack was provided. Difficult to go through my bags especially when I had an upper bunk bed. Would be good if there's a small table beside the shoe rack. The bathroom is also big enough to have an extra shelf somewhere on the wall near the sink, which will provide more convenience. There are no smoking signs around but quite a few people smoked there. The clothesline was very high and I had to stand on a chair to use it. Not convenient to access cutleries in the kitchen drawers. Australian residents are not allowed to stay normally.

Good amenities but dorm room...

Liked: Friendly staff, good kitchen facilities and a social hostel.
Disliked: Location isn’t great for access to central Brisbane, quite a long walk - there is a free bus which takes you down to the river. Room was unbearably hot, only standing fans with no AC. If on the top bunk there was no relief for the hot temperature. The room had one small window next to the door but this was covered by a bunk bed. Very dark and dingy, room smelt strongly of damp. Second night woke up in the morning with about 50 bites all over feet and lower legs. Unsure if bedbugs or mosquitos. Would not recommend to stay here, room cramped hot and smelly. Only managed two nights and checked out early!
