Reasonable cost to stay however...

Liked: Facilities generally were good however the main hall toilets were pretty grubby and someone had been sick in the cubicle, a slip guard had been put in front of the cubicle but this didn’t detract the smell and fact that nothing had been done. The Spa/leisure facilities were good however please see comment below.
Disliked: Our third stay at Slaley and purposely as a chill day/night. Our first concern is the fact that you can’t get into your room until after 3.00pm this when many other hotels are midday. Although we were told that we could use the spa facilities it would have meant emptying our cases in a store room the size of a telephone box. When we did get our room key we were allocated 316, first floor, but was told there was a lift, useful as I had just had surgery on both knees. Only when we got to the lift, some distance from reception the lift was signed out of order and had to man handle our cases up flights of stairs. The room was satisfactory however the view of the inner car park at a “Country Hotel” wasn’t great. A safety point to mention the hand basin tap was plumbed incorrectly leading to being scalded. Additionally there were no glasses in the bathroom or bedroom, although room staff did provide this on request. On attending the spa in the afternoon we were greeted with no means to lock our belongings in changing rooms and wasn’t given any assistance by staff. The facilities were good however the facilities were overcrowded there was no room, we couldn’t use the facilities with steam room, sauna, beds, chairs, tables all full. Additionally I didn’t agree with the hotels decision to allow alcoholic drinks in and around the facilities - a recipe for an accident to happen. More concerning there appeared to be no permanent staff on pool safety duty, something I thought was mandatory given the risk. All in all, very disappointing given this was the reason for our visit. If this is common occurrence, which I’m guessing is, the Hotel needs to manage this by providing allocated time periods for guests to use. There was no managing of numbers attending or check to see if those attending where still guests - merely a signing in of room numbers and this wasn’t checked to ensure compliance with hotel rules for use.

It was my son's wedding...

Liked: Surroundings and views Breakfast quality and selection were exceptional. Claret jug the groomsman loved the pool and table tennis the night before the wedding
Disliked: No fridge in room. Where tea and coffee facilities are there is no plug for kettle. The lift was broken all weekend. Main menu for evening meal bit limited.

Good

Liked: The grounds are brilliant
Disliked: Our room got bad condensation so the windows and window sill were full of water. On the Saturday night there was a wedding where guests had hired a room but were able to take over the downstairs facilities, if they have hired a room that is where they should be based there was little room for others. Also it would be useful to know that there would be noise late into the night as our sleep was disrupted by the noise.
