Fantastic location, and it could...

Liked: I liked the furnishings. The lobby and room were mostly comfortable. The location was excellent.
Disliked: The kitchen was being refurbished, so wasn't open, and nobody had warned me. There was no bar - maybe because of the kitchen, and nobody had told me. They offered one kind of red wine, or one kind of white wine, but no bar menu. The breakfast room was cold, and they didn't often light the stove that's in all the photos. The staff were bored and mostly absent. Before I got there, I upgraded my room to a deluxe, but it was still very small. The shower door was extremely hard to open, you had to throw your weight against it. The basin was in the room, the loo and shower doors about a foot from the end of the bed - so it was pretty cramped. The phone to reception ("just dial for anything you want!") was never answered, and when I mentioned it they just shrugged. The website mentioned room service, but there wasn't any. The bed was made every day, but barely. The mini-bar wasn't restocked. There was no free bottled water in the room. All this would have been a lot more acceptable if they had warned me, and given a reasonable reduction in rates for having no bar to speak of and no restaurant at all, but they didn't, it was a surprise.
