It was very clean and...
Liked: The twin bed was surprisingly comfortable! Each bed had an area to plug in devices too. The bathroom was very clean, and I was able to get a hair dryer when I asked. I was there for only a brief time (10 hours to be exact), but I would have liked to hang out in the inviting living room and kitchen areas. The porch was very pleasant as well. I was unexpectedly impressed overall!
Disliked: More breakfast options than just pancakes.

Cozy stay, great value
Liked: Very cozy hostel in a nice area with clean facilities. Self-service breakfast was nice and easy to make, but just make sure you give yourself enough time to cook, eat and wash dishes before leaving for the day.
Disliked: Parking was a little bit hard to find as there isn’t a very clear sign about where the hostel parking is located.

Glad it was just a...
Liked: Located a short walk from the main street with restaurants and shops etc. Has parking. The communal area is a good size relative to the property. Free breakfast. Receptionist was friendly.
Disliked: The lock for the door to our room didn’t work so we had to move rooms. I’m a well seasoned hostel traveller, but unfortunately the soundproofing was non existent. I could literally hear whether the person was doing a number one or a number two in the bathroom next door and every word of the girl in the kitchen’s Zoom meeting. At night you can wear earplugs, but if you just want to relax in your room in the evening, you can’t get any peace. The room would feel elevated for next to no cost if the bedding was crisp white sheets - not many hospitality places use brown sheets and it makes it seem less clean and more downmarket. There’s a free breakfast, which is nice, but just FYI it is only pancake batter which you have to then cook yourself. The demographic is slightly weird - lots of middle-aged / older single people looking a bit lost and down on their luck… if you are used to backpacking in Europe or Asia, it’s not your normal crowd. I’m all for working to a budget, but some of the measures seem a bit stingy like getting everyone to use the same dirty and cold washing up water in the kitchen sink. Based on some of the signage around the hostel re check in and lockout times, I wonder if unsavoury guests may be a bit of an issue they are trying to combat? I think the place is well intentioned and maybe the vibe is a bit different when it’s busier but I was happy to leave after one night, sorry.

Undisclosed Rules! Hostel closed from...
Liked: Close to SLO Amtrak station. No cash or credit card deposit.
Disliked: Undisclosed Rules. Multi night guests are treated like they booked a single night day after day due to the "rule" to be out of the hostel from 11am to 4:30pm. This vastly reduced the value of lodgings because I thought I booked a bed in a room with access to the home, the kitchen, the bathrooms from 4:30 pm when I first checked in until 11am the day I checked out. It was difficult for me to be out of the home for that long everyday because while I was out of the hostel, I bought food that needed refrigeration. I needed to use the bathroom and most places only offer bathrooms to a customer, I didn't want to eat out everyday. The local library isn't open everyday of the week, I wasn't always near a walmart or grocery store with a bathroom. If it was raining or if I had a migraine, I would not have wanted to go out.The hostel claims it is not safe for guests to be in the hostel during cleaning, but I have never encountered a hotel, motel or airbnb that required paying guests to be out of their rooms for 5.5 hours in deference to housekeeping. This half day lockout vastly undermined the value of the accomodation and I would never have booked a multi night stay had these rules been disclosed. I would not stay at this hostel again unless it was for a single night and if I had a very early train ride. The half day lockout policy seemed more in line with something one might encounter in a homeless shelter than paid lodgingsThe hostel was only surface clean (see pictures). I think of "very clean" as other reviews have said as move out clean and get your full deposit back. The hostel has dirty grout, baseboards and there was significant dust around my bed and floor when I looked for a place to charge my phone. The shower had mold on fan and the ceiling. I did mention this to staff, but it was cleaned during the rest of my stay.I decided a shared room is not something I want to experience again.
