Bad

Book another hotel.
Liked: The location was ideal in the centre.
Disliked: Where shall I begin. We were not notified that they had hotel protesters outside the entrance that were extremely noisy with drums and loud speakers and we had a no cancel arrangement. The food was extremely poor as they were getting from the deli next door and it was cold a poor quality. When we complained they took it off of the bill but this was not well received. It was awkward walking in and out as you felt sorry for the staff fighting for a fair deal. Personally we would not use them again.

AVOID! Protestors permanently camped outside...
Liked: Room was mostly ok
Disliked: AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Hotel workers on strike are are picketing the hotel, making a huge racket from 7am-10pm every night. They endlessly yell and chant with loudspeakers and bang drums. It really made our stay unpleasant, which I understand is the point. We were not warned about the protest and were not in a position to change hotels. We were not offered compensation of any kind. The protest has been going on for weeks, because Marriott refuses to negotiate with the workers. Clearly Marriott cares neither for their workers nor their guests. To top it off, facilities in the room were sub-par. Coffee tasted like water. And they don't even offer glasses, only paper cups!!! In a $300 / night room!!!Last time I stay at any Marriott.

LOUD protests every day outside...
Liked: Hotel is relatively clean. Also to be fair, the room we were given was reasonably well insulated from the protest noise outside.
Disliked: Anyone thinking about booking this hotel needs to realise there is a VERY LOUD, PERMANENT HOTEL UNION WORKER PROTEST HAPPENING ALL DAY AND NIGHT, EVERY SINGLE DAY OUTSIDE THE HOTEL. It involves works chanting through megaphones and banging on drums as hard as they can to create the most godawful racket possible. The point of the protest is to make guests' stay as uncomfortable as possible to damage the hotel's business, so the hotel will be forced to bargain with the union to meet their demands. We were NOT told about this protest in advance by the hotel. We were NOT offered compensation in the form of some discount etc. The Marriott is essentially quietly letting guests book their stays and find out on arrival the situation. They know full well that most guests will not be in a position to change their accommodation on arrival. It's a stitch-up by Marriott. This an extremely dirty and dishonest tactic by Marriott. It does not surprise me at all that their workers are protesting to similarly complain about unfair conditions and exploitation by Marriott. I do not begrudge the protestors at all, despite making our stay unpleasant.I strongly people NOT to book the Marriott Union Square, they do not deserve guests' business with the way they are handling the current situation.

Disliked: Strike from hotel staff outside of the hotel. They played loud drums and yelled at us when entering the hotel. DONT STAY HERE!! (while strike is going on).
