Poor - 1.0 out of 5

My son, who is 20 years old, wanted to treat his sister to her 1st music gig - she was turning 17 on the Saturday! So we decided to book accommodation knowing they’d all be together! It states on your website that someone in the group needs to be over 18, so couldn’t understand why it was an issue for my daughter and her cousin to be allowed to stay, as my son is 20 and his girlfriend is 18? They missed over an hour of the music gig - just really ruined it for them. I booked safe stay cause I’d seen good reviews but sadly won’t use again was very upsetting for all especially me as I was 2hrs away at home and was worried enough at them going then was getting told my daughter and cousin couldn’t stay - staff were very rude!

Liked: Kids said building is lovely and clean.
Disliked: The way my teenage children were treated on arrival.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Lisa, Dunfermline, visiting O2 Academy Glasgow Tue, 3 December 2013

When we arrived at 4pm (check in was 2pm) we were told that our room wasn't ready. On calling housekeeping, we were then told that it was ready. The receptionist, we found, was quite patronising and not very friendly. When we got to our room, we realised we had a disabled bathroom which obviously wasn't suitable for us and not what we had booked. The bathroom was just a walk in shower and didn't even have a bath. The sink and facilities were obviously lowered for a disabled person but this was inconvenient for us. The radiatior didn't work and the room was freezing when we got there. We had asked for a DVD player which turned out to be a PS2 which kept skipping. The "double room" was actually just two separate single beds joined together which we weren't happy with as this is not what we asked for. We ordered drinks to our room and on arrival, the member of staff missed a drink off our order so had to go back and correct it. Overall, we weren't impressed with our stay and definitely wouldn't stay here again. Just generally disappointed as Best Western are a well known company and I never expected this from them.

Comfy stay in the best...

Liked: Great stay in a location that can't be beat. Spacious and naturally bright rooms with curtains on every bed (!!), lockers, a beautiful ensuite with big shower and shelving, and each bed had a lamp and power outlets. There's also a nice, clean common room, reliable WiFi, and a coffee dispenser downstairs which was appreciated. I stayed at a different hostel during my last visit to Glasgow and while both were cosy and comfortable, it was a much further walk from everything than Safestay was. This trip, I went to a show at the Kings Theatre and it was literally a 20 second walk from the door.
Disliked: My bed (Room 201 Bed 6) wasn't super comfy as the mattress was quite worn. It also made loud noises when I shifted around or got into bed, which would have disturbed the other girls. I think some of the other beds had newer mattresses (had to feel the one below mine when I climbed under to search for my keycard that fell down lol)

Poor

Liked: A "safe stay" should be "safe" for everybody, especially at a place calling itself "Safestay". Or am I wrong? Upon entering it was immediately noticeable that the Israeli flag was ripped off. It's important to stand up for peace, but no-one is being helped in this conflict by basically denying a country's existence and displaying the demand for its removal. If the goal is to promote peace and a ceasefire, then show balance — place the Palestinian flag next to the Israeli one. That would be a meaningful gesture towards dialogue and coexistence and an end to this war, not erasing one side entirely.

Ok at the price

Liked: Bathroom good. Bed was a bit worn (too soft, sagged). The carpet is really old, worn and filthy. The heating works sometimes but isn’t controlled in the room itself. The room currently overlooks 2 huge building sites which are deafeningly loud and make the building shake like theres an earthquake.
Disliked: The carpet, the heating, the drafty windows.
